DALLAS (AP) — A Texas prosecutor said Friday that investigators have linked more than 60 killings in at least 14 states to a 79-year-old California inmate who may be the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history.Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland said Samuel Little continues to cooperate with investigators from around the country who interrogate him in prison about cold case killings dating back to the 1970s. Among those who spoke to him were investigators from Ohio, where Little grew up and where he's suspected of killing at least five women.Little was convicted of killing three Los Angeles-area women and pleaded guilty to killing a Texas woman, and he's serving life sentences in California. Little, who lived a nomadic lifestyle, claims to have killed 93 women as he crisscrossed the country over the years.Bland said Little is in failing health and has exhausted his appeals, leading him to be forthcoming with investigators."At this point in his life I think he's determined to make sure that his victims are found," he said.During Little's 2014 trial in Los Angeles, prosecutors said he was likely responsible for at least 40 killings since 1980. Authorities at the time were looking for possible links to deaths in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Texas. But Little was not forthcoming with information at the time and Bland credits Texas Ranger James Holland with gaining Little's trust and eventually eliciting a series of confessions.Holland traveled to California last year to speak with Little about cold cases in Texas. That led Little to be extradited to Texas and his guilty plea in December in the 1994 strangulation death of Denise Christie Brothers in the West Texas city of Odessa. But Holland's conversations with Little have continued, even after Little was returned to California to serve his sentences, and it was Holland who determined that he was responsible for 93 deaths, said Bland, who received an update from Holland this week.Information provided to Holland was relayed to law enforcement agencies in several states, leading to a revolving door of investigators who traveled to California to corroborate decades-old deaths.Among them were investigators from Ohio, where prosecutors on Friday announced charges against Little in the 1981 killing of a Cincinnati woman and where he was charged last week in the deaths of two women in Cleveland. He previously was charged in a second Cincinnati killing and confessed to another one in Cleveland, though investigators are still trying to identify the victim in that case.He explained that Little's victims often were suffocated or strangled, in many cases leaving few physical marks and leading investigators to determine the women died of overdoses or of natural causes."There's still been no false information given," Bland said. "Nothing has been proven to be false."Gary Ridgway, the so-called Green River Killer, pleaded guilty to killing 49 women and girls, making him the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history in terms of confirmed victims, though he said he killed 71. 3122

DeSantis’ mishandling of #COVID has made him a global laughingstock & caused so much needless suffering & death in our state. Now, beyond just deadly incompetence, it appears he has chosen to abuse Florida’s law enforcement and judicial systems to persecute Rebekah Jones, (1/4) https://t.co/pcqKXo1JZD— Rep. Democrats felt they had a chance to win control of the Senate following the 2020 Election. And while hope is quickly evaporating after losing a few key races, Dems may still have a path to controlling the upper chamber — through Georgia. That's because the Peach State is choosing not just one, but two new Senators in 2020. And because Georgia uses a runoff system to elect its Senators, some candidates will continue campaigning in the state for a few weeks. In Georgia, Senate candidates need to win 50% of the vote on election day in order to secure their seats. If neither candidate reaches the 50% threshold, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff election in early January. This year, first-term Republican Sen. David Perdue is up for re-election and faces a stiff challenge from Democrat Jon Ossoff, who won a primary election earlier this year. Prior to election day, polls showed a tight race between the two candidates. As of Thursday morning, Perdue currently has just barely 50% of the vote — but the margin is razor-thin and shrinking. As election officials continue to count mail-in ballots, which tend to skew blue, Democrats hope votes for Ossoff and Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel drop Perdue's vote count under the 50% margin to force a runoff. In addition, Georgians this year were also tasked with selecting a replacement for third-term Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson, who retired in 2019 due to health problems. Though businesswoman Kelly Loeffler was tapped by Gov. Brian Kemp to replace Isakson, Kemp announced that a special election would be held in 2020 so voters could select who finished Isakson's term.Because the special election had no primary vote, it was always expected to end in a runoff. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, currently has the most votes (about 33%) among all candidates — but likely because Loeffler and Rep. Doug Collins waged an expensive inter-Republican fight for the right to compete in a runoff. Loeffler (26%) tallied more votes than Collins (20%), meaning she'll face Warnock in a runoff election early next year.As of Thursday morning, both the Republican and Democrat caucus hold 48 Senate seats, with four races still to be called by the Associated Press. In addition to the two Georgia races, Senate seats in Alaska and North Carolina still remain up for grabs.Should Republicans prevail in Alaska and North Carolina, Democrats' last hope to control the Senate lies in the presidency — since the Vice President is the tiebreak vote — and in Georgia, where they could possibly net two flips in January, should Perdue's share of the votes dip under 50%.Georgia's runoff elections will take place on Jan. 5. 2674

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has taken the lead in the vote counts for two key battleground states, putting him on the precipice of clinching the White House. At about 9 a.m. ET, a vote count update in Pennsylvania showed that Biden had taken a lead of about 7,000 votes over President Donald Trump. The lead for Biden increased to 20,000 by Friday evening. The update came hours after Biden took the lead in Georgia after a vote count update came in from Clayton County. Biden held an advantage of about 4,000 votes in the state, as of p.m. ET8.Trump once held close to a 400,000 vote lead in Georgia when election officials began transitioning from counting Election Day ballots to mail-in votes.Watch RNC officials hold a press conference over the election in Atlanta:Watch Georgia's election officials provide an update on the state's results:On Friday, Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger said he believes the presidential race will be within the margin of a recount.Georgia and Pennsylvania are two of a handful of battleground states that have yet to be called and will be crucial in determining the outcome of the presidential race. State officials in Nevada briefly stopped counting on early Thursday evening and are set to resume Friday morning. While Trump took to the White House briefing room dais to declare the election was being stolen from him, the reality is that Trump did poorly in mail-in votes. While Trump dominated Biden in votes cast on Election Day, Biden led mail-in voting in Pennsylvania by a 3-to-1 margin, and he led mail-in votes by a 2-to-1 ledger in Georgia. The two states largely completed their Election Day tabulations on Wednesday, allowing Biden to comeback ever since. The Pennsylvania Secretary of State's Office said that the count of mail-in and overseas military ballots was nearly complete, and officials are now counting provisional ballots.Winning Pennsylvania alone assures Biden of an Electoral College victory. Georgia also likely gives Biden a win as the Associated Press previously projected Biden would win Arizona, although Biden's lead has narrowed to just 1.5% there. While dozens of workers in Philadelphia remained busy counting votes, Clayton County, Georgia, also became the center of election attention late Thursday and into Friday. The county, which heavily supported Biden, was still actively counting votes as other counties decided to rest for the night. 2443
