BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief said Thursday that closer, stronger and better cross-Strait relations are the common aspiration and the wish of the people.
According to the adjustment, six APTA members including China, India, the Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka cut tariffs by 33 percent on average for products under 10,312 tariff codes. Some products from less-developed Bangladesh and Laos will enjoy special reductions of 86 percent.
Lien called on the two sides to promote economic cooperation, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, expand mutual benefits, enhance the kinship between people across the Strait, and continuously increase integration to realize rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Stressing that the sustained and stable development of China's relations with UNESCO was conducive to global peace and prosperity, Xi said China attached great importance to UNESCO and firmly supported the important role UNESCO had played in advancing global development.
The fact that the two heads of state have visited each other's country within slightly more than a year indicates the great importance both sides have attached to deepening their ties, Xi said.
