San Diego (KGTV)- For weeks, the pandemic left nursing students at CSU San Marcos in limbo when it came to completing their graduation requirements. Now, thanks to the county, the students can get their clinical hours.When the pandemic hit in March, nursing students were forced out of public health facilities to get their hands-on experience for their classes.“We didn’t know when we were going to go back, and it was halfway through the spring semester,” says nursing student Winter Minton.Minton will be graduating from CSU San Marcos in the spring.The nursing student says for weeks, students were unsure about how they would obtain their clinical hours. A total of 135 hours are needed for two classes.“When we were ready to go back, the county was not willing, ready to have nursing students on site at all,” says Course Coordinator Madelyn Lewis.In August, the county opened a COVID-19 testing clinic on campus and allowed nursing students to work on-site. The students assist patients with self-administered COVID tests while wearing full protective gear.“Not only does it benefit us, but it benefits so many people,” says Minton. “I heard people driving all the way down from Irvine or Fullerton just to get the exam done.”Minton says the walk-in clinic sees more than 300 patients a day.The testing site is open to the public seven days a week. 1363

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — For months, health professionals have urged the public to help stop the spread of COVID-19, while promoting face coverings, social distancing, and hand washing.“We’ve known for a long time that this virus is an enveloped virus and has an outer lipid layer, and we know that it’s sensitive to agents that can disrupt this fatty outer shell. That’s why we ask patients and people to wash their hands with soap," said Dr. Kami Hoss, founder and CEO of The Super Dentists in San Diego. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Hoss has also asked patients to swish some mouthwash before they sit down for care.“That’s just one more layer of protection we’ve added," said Dr. Hoss. Now, researchers at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom are learning some mouthwashes can kill COVID-19 within 30 seconds, at least in a lab setting. The study found mouthwashes containing .07 percent of cetylpyridinium chloride showed promising signs of combating the virus, as well as those with ethyl lauroyl arginate. But while these mouthwashes killed the virus in the lab, the virus is continuously replicating in humans. Whether for convenience or for price, third-party repair shops are the choice for many customers. Unfortunately, some Apple users with the latest phones say they're not able to go to third-party shops. Four years ago, Christopher McQueen said he found the perfect niche business. “People are always breaking their phones, late at night,” McQueen said.He is the owner of Mobile Cell Doctors. He will come to you and fix your phone.“To be able to fix your phone in 10 minutes, versus a 3-hour fiasco at Apple, it was a need that was definitely there,” McQueen said. He said he can fix any hardware problems, except on the most recent iPhone models - iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.Just recently, iPhone 8 user Lucas Peckham went to McQueen to get his broken screen replaced. His choices were 0 with McQueen or 9 at the Apple Store. He chose the cheaper, more convenient option.Peckham said everything was flawless until one morning, he woke up to a phone with a frozen screen. He could not swipe, touch, type, or do anything with his device. Peckham said it happened after his phone automatically updated overnight, installing the Apple 11.3 Software.McQueen said he was suddenly inundated with calls from all of his previous iPhone 8 customers. “It’s been a nightmare,” McQueen said. He said he had fixed about 100 iPhone 8’s in the last six months. He suggested to his customers, to do what they hoped to avoid by going to him in the first place - go to the Apple Store. But Peckham said, when he showed Apple the problem, he was told, because he previously used a third-party repairman, they could not repair it. Instead, he had to replace it with a brand new screen for 0 - or buy a whole new phone. “I totally felt screwed,” Peckham said. With no other option, Peckham said he gave in, spending six hours at the Apple Store, and paying up the 0. “It was basically a way for Apple to create kind of a monopoly on the iPhone screen,” Peckham said. Last month, California became the 18th state to introduce a “Right to Repair” Bill, which would require electronics manufacturers to make repair information and parts available to owners and third-party repair shops.McQueen hopes this legislation passes, so mom-and-pop business owners like him also get to have a piece of the pie. “I would love to fix those,” McQueen said. “But until they release the software to run the phones that would allow third-parties to work on those devices, we can’t fix them.”10News spoke to Apple, who said they do work with Authorized third-party dealers that are not Apple Stores. SAN DIEGO - At St. John The Evangelist's Sunday night service, the pews were packed to hear why their pastoral associate was resigning.Aaron Bianco was asked to come to St. John August of 2016. His work for the San Diego church: organizing events, budgets and other behind the scenes tasks. His goal, to build up a more inclusive church.Bianco has been married to his husband for 10 years last month, and once he started at St. John, so did the attacks."They've threatened me from shooting me down across the street, to throwing Molotov cocktails into the church," Bianco said.The hate groups sent emails equating him to a pedophile and threatening him. His tires were slashed, fire thrown at the church doors, the office broken into and spray painted with a gay slur."They're no different from organized crime or a terrorist group. They will continue until they get their way," Bianco said their goal was to force him out. "I'm convinced that the gospel is on my side, and they can spew their hate, but I'm not going to allow them to make me hate them back," Bianco said.Last week his personal information including photos of his family and his home address was published on a conservative Catholic website. Bianco said he saw someone in their yard in the middle of the night watching the house.Since the threats, he's added security to his home and filed police reports.He realized it was all too much, "My life and those of my family are more important than any job."Bianco addressed the packed church at Sunday night's mass, "when hate rages like a fire, love rains down, and I feel it from so many of you in this room."Bianco said he believes there is more good in the world than bad, explaining he's received encouraging notes from people all over the world.After his speech, the church erupted, "It made me so happy that everybody stood there and clapped for the longest ovation I've ever heard in a church in my life. Letting him know that we love you, we care about you and you're going to be missed," Parishioner Berena Pe?a said.She attended the church a decade prior and stopped coming because she didn't feel welcome as a lesbian. Her friend convinced her to try again two years ago. She said she could feel the difference, and it woke her up.Bianco said this is not the end, and he will keep fighting.
