"we don’t want to enable these people to continue to their criminal and drug-addicted lives."Councilwoman Esther Sanchez says the city has three homeless outreach teams but they need more help. "This really is a regional problem, whatever one city does everyone is going to want to go there so we all have to go at the same time," said Sanchez. The problem has only gotten worse since the city is forced to take in more people than it can handle. "Are we going to really be responsible for Orange County cities that are cleaning out the river and giving them one-way tickets to Oceanside?" said Sanchez. "I really think what we should be pushing is a blue ribbon committee, the county, the 18 cities, as well as the state."Recommendations made to the council tonight included declaring an Emergency Shelter Crisis and increasing police enforcement. The Taking Back Oceanside group is set to meet with the chief of police on October 24.  1750

(KGTV) — Oceanside city officials are asking for developers to submit their bids to create an "iconic" downtown sign for the city, similar to areas of the county like the Gaslamp District, North Park, and Escondido.The city's request for proposals calls for a sign that will act as a new landmark and "the heart of the Sunset Market" at the intersection of Tremont Street and Pier View Way.The sign must be an "over-the-road" style sign that spans the intersection and aims to, "create a 'place' that locals and visitors are invited to enjoy for decades to come," the city says.Candidates can submit an initial design by January 13, 2021. The top five candidates will be granted ,000 and four weeks to flesh out their designs, budget, and other aspects. The city's Property and Business Improvement District will then choose the best three to go before a public vote. On Aug. 26, 2017, 15-year-old Damon Grimes was involved in a police pursuit while driving an ATV in Detroit. That pursuit ended in a crash that claimed Grimes’ life.Reporters at Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit requested video from the crash under the Freedom of Information Act, and received 25 hours worth of video from police body cameras and dash cameras, surveillance video and cell phone video shot by witnesses that tell the story of the senseless death.Officials did not provide footage from the dash cam of the pursuit by Michigan State Troopers, Mark Bessner and Ethan Berger.At 5:31 p.m., video shows Damon Grimes riding his ATV down Rossini Avenue and Gratiot in Detroit. At that time, Trooper Mark Bessner requested priority to chase an ATV.“He flipped. Flipped!” Detroit Police Officer Williams said, video shows.“Yup, tell them there’s an accident,” said DPD Officer Boersman, who was first on the scene.Grimes had hit a parked Ford F-150 with his ATV and he flew off the four-wheeler.“0-9, he’s slowed down, we tased him and he crashed out.
