Call it futuristic, but in reality, it's science redirected to make people feel better.Eric Rice, founder and CEO of Quanta, gave a virtual tour of his Los Angeles-based lab which produces the muscle Rub.“We have the brain and the body,” Rice said. “The brain does all the calculation. Its where we input information and then the body itself is a gigantic freezer with chambers.”As Rice showed the machines that produce Quanta, and how they work, he said, “Here’s our batches of muscle rub. You can see everything being made. Everything’s organic, natural, grown from the earth. We don’t use any synthetic materials for any of our products.”Running Quanta, he's leading the charge in new technology geared toward pain management."Pain right now affects 22% of the world’s population, or 1.7 billion people daily,” Rice said. “Chronic pain, pain that lasts 3 weeks or longer, that’s considered chronic.”Rice is a former baseball player, so pain is something that Rice knows all too well.“I’m a former athlete and I have horrible knees, shoulders and back,” Rice said. “We started out with a simple muscle rub with a few ingredients and CBD was a great place for us to start. It’s been around, patented, but used for one pharmaceutical solution.”He took the concept of CBD or cannabidiol and applied his knowledge of quantum physics and biochemistry to change molecules, which then makes ingredients more effective.“Imagine my finger point being a nucleus. When you’re alive, electrons rotate like this, really far really fast from the center,” Rice said. “As you die and age, they slow down and get closer to the nucleus. What we do is use our technology to speed it back up and stabilize the cell so we’re creating excited state molecules that don’t ionize and oxidize.”It's a unique business concept, and it's one that even he admits sounds out of this world.“We use really contemporary if not futuristic science to increase the amount of energy to molecules so that we use an ingredient for your skin or your health it performs 3-500 % better than anything else you’ll find in the market,” Rice said. The market he's referring to is topical CBD, which is seemingly everywhere these days.Dr. Richard Sorgnard specializes in electrical cell signaling technology, which is a medical device that treats severe pain.“These are placed on the body in a specific array depending on the diagnosis and then when the machine is turned on it will deliver 12 types of electrical stimulation,” Sorgnard said.He recommends Quanta to his patients, before, during and after the treatment. The machine, he says, treats all kinds of pain and feels like a massage. With Quanta, he says, patients are resolving their problems and not masking them.“We noticed it made a great afterglow for the treatment- when we use them together the patients get a better response for the initial sensation,” Sorgnard said.Rice says Quanta is expanding beyond topical pain relief and into vitamins, supplements and skin care.“I can absolutely see us heavily involved in agriculture, food, beverage anything having to do with energy and natural ingredients is really kind of our focus. Pharmaceutical as well as helping people grow plant matter on different planets,” Rice said.He says Quanta has delayed his own surgeries for years and believes polarizing ingredients is the world's next step into the future and beyond.Rice’s website does note that Quanta’s effectiveness has not been evaluated by the FDA. The FDA adds that while there might be some to CBD products, there are potential side effects that should weighed. More info can be seen here. 3622

California health officials are warning residents not to eat oysters from British Columbia, Canada, following a norovirus outbreak.About 100 people got sick in California after they consumed the raw oysters, health officials said."As of April 27, approximately 100 individuals have reported illness after they consumed raw British Columbian oysters sold by restaurants and retailers throughout the state," the California Department of Public Health said."Laboratory testing has confirmed norovirus infection in several patients from both California and Canada. Although the number of reported new illnesses has decreased during the last week, the investigation is ongoing."Canada has reported 172 cases of gastrointestinal illness linked to consumption of raw oysters."Avoid eating raw and undercooked shellfish, including oysters, to reduce your risk of illness," said Dr. Karen Smith, a public health officer in California."If you do eat shellfish, cook it until it reaches an internal temperature of at least 145°F. Quick steaming isn't sufficient to kill norovirus."Norovirus is spread through the ingestion of infectious virions, which grow in the small intestine before being expelled in feces. Infection usually occurs when someone eats food or drinks liquids that have been contaminated, touches surfaces or objects that are contaminated and then puts their hands in their mouth, or has contact with someone who has been infected, such as by sharing food.Norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach, the intestines or both. A person usually develops symptoms 12 to 48 hours after being exposed.Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramps.  1687

Chanel White has missed going to karaoke bars, but when it comes to being in quarantine, she’s used to it.“Life hasn’t been too different from what it normally was for me,” Chanel White said.In 2011, White was diagnosed with systemic sclerosis, an auto-immune disease.“Basically my body just sees myself, my tissue, my organs as something foreign and something that should be attacked,” White said. She gets nutrients through a feeding tube and takes a lot of different medications. She’s also considered high risk of contracting COVID-19.“Pneumonia is basically the number one cause of death for people with my condition.”Based on a report by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, White should be among those who get the novel coronavirus vaccine as soon as it’s available.“Ethics is the essence of this,” Dr. Eric Toner said.Dr. Toner is a Senior Scholar with Johns Hopkins. Who gets the vaccine first will ultimately be up to the Department of Health and Human Services, but Dr. Toner says the report is meant to offer an ethical framework to help prioritize who gets the vaccine and when.“First of all it’d be health care workers who are taking care of COVID-19 patients. That seems pretty straight forward and non-controversial,” Dr. Toner said. Also in the first tier would be people who are essential to the pandemic response – like those doing the vaccinating, people on the front lines of public health and people working in nursing homes. That first tier would also include the men and women who have helped maintain some normalcy during the pandemic.“Think of front-line transportation workers like bus drivers, think about people working grocery stores, people who work in food production, people who keep the lights on and the water running,” Dr. Toner said.White would be in tier one, but her medical situation is quite complicated.“I right now can’t get vaccines,” White said. She says the treatment she’s receiving heavily reduces her immune response so her body doesn’t attack itself. So depending on the type of vaccine, she would either develop COVID-19, or the vaccine wouldn’t do anything for her.“It’s a weird circumstance because I don’t think the world thinks a lot about people like us. They just think ‘oh the sick people are especially going to need this,’” White said.Dr. Toner says there is an alternative solution.“Vaccinate everyone around them. So vaccinate their families, their caregivers,” Dr. Toner said.“Clearly herd immunity can save an immeasurable number of lives. And so really for someone like me that really is my best shot,” White said.Getting enough people who have an immune response to the vaccine will depend on its effectiveness.“We are ensuring that the vaccine is safe and we’re ensuring that the vaccine is effective. And we will try to get it out as fast as we can, of course, but we won’t cut any corners,” Dr. Toner said. For now, White is choosing to focus on the positive."Hopefully the world will come out better because of this and empathic to their fellow man. But I do hope for a future where I can go to karaoke again,” White said. 3100

Caterpillar could eliminate nearly 900 jobs in the US and Central America, the company said on Friday.Job cuts will happen at locations in Texas and Panama as part of a restructuring, a spokeswoman said. Employees were notified earlier this year, she said. The heavy equipment manufacturer also said it is "contemplating the closure" of an engine factory in La Grange, Illinois, which is part of its subsidiary Progress Rail, a supplier of railroad and transit products. The closure, if it happens, would eliminate 600 full-time jobs in engine manufacturing. The company said it might be "transitioning" its rail manufacturing to facilities in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as "outside suppliers." The company said the employees were informed in January.Caterpillar is planning to close its work tools facility in Waco, Texas, by the end of 2018, eliminating 200 job and contractor positions there, the company said. The employees were notified last month. The company plans to move the manufacturing to Wamego, Kansas, and also to "external suppliers."Caterpillar also confirmed that it's closing a facility in Panama, and that 80 jobs will be eliminated. The company said these workers were informed in January. The cost-cutting measures come even as a growing global economy is boosting demand for its heavy-duty equipment. The company reported in January that quarterly sales grew 18%, its first increase since 2012.Sales in North American grew by 46% driven by selling and leasing machinery for home building, infrastructure and for the oil and gas industries. Sales were also boosted by increased spending in China. The company added 3,000 employees last year to meet demand, bringing its total workforce to 98,000. 1735

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Celebrities are rallying around a 6-year-old boy who saved his 4-year-old sister from a gruesome dog attack this month, according to his family.Nikki Walker took to Instagram this week to tell the story of how her nephew, Bridger, stood between his sister and charging dog. The boy’s aunt says he was bitten several times on the face and head before the two were able to run away to safety.According to Walker, the boy later said, “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.”Walker says Bridger had to receive about 90 stitches from a plastic surgeon, but he’s now recovering at home.On Instagram, Bridger asked the public to share her nephew’s story and help get the attention of some Marvel actors.“We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks,” said Walker. The request was granted. Several celebrities reached out to the family with heartfelt messages of supports, including Hugh Jackman, Zachary Levi, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robbie Amell, Octavia Spencer, and Mark Ruffalo.“Captain America” actor Chris Evans even sent a video message to Bridger, which his aunt posted Wednesday."Hey, Bridger. Captian America here, how you doing, buddy? I'm sure you've heard a lot of this over the past few days but let me be the next one to tell you – pal, you're a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless," Evans said in the video. "Your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you."Evans also said he would be sending Bridger an authentic Captain America shield. 1604
