This past weekend, they held an event offering , 14-inch pizzas to all customers. "It's trying times for everyone so we figured it was something fun and the least we could do to try and help everyone out, from families that are out of work, to industry employees, to our first responders," Yankle added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ring video captured a man leaping into action, after an incident at a neighbor's Mira Mesa home.Just off Parkdale Avenue, Rod Hutty ran to the front yard in his sandals and saw some frantic neighbors last Wednesday afternoon."I heard a scream and two women came out. One had a stick and shouted, 'Stop,'" said Hutty. Video shows what happened next. Hutty says he spotted a man in his early 20s, who started running."My adrenaline kicked in. I knew something was wrong. I shouted at him," said Hutty.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHutty gave chase. He saw another man running in a different direction, causing Hutty to go after him. What isn't seen on camera is Hutty catching up to him."I went like this and he went like this, and grabbed him and almost took him to the ground. Then he got away," said Hutty.Hutty chased them for a bit, before heading back to get his bike. He never saw them again. Witnesses spotted a blue minivan picking up the two men. Hutty later got a visit from the Eggum family, receiving a big "thank you." Hutty's cousin placed the video on the Neighbors by Ring app."Did the best he could ... appreciate neighbors helping out," said Gordon Eggum.Eggum says his wife saw the two men lurking in the backyard after hopping the fence. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Harbor Police Tuesday arrested a man accused of attacking a teen Syrian refugee on board an MTS trolley, sparking a hate crime investigation. According to police, 26-year-old Adrian Vergara was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor narcotic charge. During his arrest, Vergara was recognized as being wanted in connection to an ongoing hate crime investigation, police said. The arrest stems from the beating of a 17-year-old Syrian refugee on a San Diego Trolley car Oct. 15. Representatives for the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans (PANA), who spoke on the teen's behalf, told 10News the teen was speaking Arabic while on FaceTime with a friend when a man on the trolley asked him, "Where are you from? Are you Mexican?"RELATED: Teen attacked on trolley in possible hate crimeThe teen reportedly responded, "No, I am Arab."According to the teen, the man then started punching him and cursing while using racial slurs. The victim reportedly exited the trolley at the 62nd Street station in Encanto. He said the man also got off the trolley and left the scene.Numerous people reportedly watched as the victim was attacked, but no one stepped in to help him. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue is bringing on more firefighters and preparing for a Red Flag Warning and Heat Advisory in the week ahead.Starting Monday Deputy Fire Chief David Gerboth said, "our helicopters will be on 24 hours a day. We're staffing up five additional brush engines. These are engines that are specially designed to work in these rural areas."He explained the engines have off-road capabilities and can fight fire in areas similar to Japatul Valley where the Valley Fire burned more than 9,000 acres in a day.The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for San Diego County mountains and valleys Monday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.A Heat Advisory follows, 10 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Thursday, "91 to 102 degrees for the San Diego valleys."This combination dire according to Gerboth."Near-record high temperatures, a mild Santa Ana event and combine that with our vegetation that burns is reaching critically dry levels. So it's very receptive to burn and it's spreading and burning quickly when it does," Gerboth said.He said now is the time to have a plan in place to evacuate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police made six DUI arrests during a downtown checkpoint Saturday night. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. In total, 1,765 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 526 were screened. Six drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, two drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Two citations were also issued for unspecified reasons at the checkpoint. “The San Diego Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint or DUI saturation patrol on March 15, 2020, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” police said in a news release. 792
