SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- According to a recently-released autopsy, a combination of cocaine, alcohol and blunt chest impact caused a man to die during a punching game in March downtown.The medical examiner ruled the death of 27-year-old Corey Poole an accident Monday. According to authorities, Poole went out drinking at Jolt’n Joe’s downtown just before 1 a.m. with friends.Police said Poole and one of his friends then decided to have a punching contest. Poole and his friend then started “consensually sparring” and punching one another in the chest.RELATED: Man killed in Gaslamp Quarter punching game identifiedIt was then, according to police, that Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive. Poole was taken to the hospital where he later died.Poole’s friend was also taken to the hospital for chest pain following the incident. 850

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Aaron Juarez sat stone-faced as a public defender tried to convince a South Bay judge he's not a flight risk; especially not to Mexico. The deputy district attorney says Juarez, 20, is a gang member recently sentenced to probation on a firearms conviction. The judge ordered him held without bail for violating his probation, but he's wanted in Tijuana for allegedly murdering his stepmom. "They used to have a good relationship before, but after he starts with his drug problems and his gang problems, she was kind of, scared," said Erika Gonzalez, the victim's sister.RELATED: Man suspected of killing, burying stepmother in Tijuana backyard may be in U.S.After getting an anonymous tip, the family of Fernanda Gonzalez Serrano found her body buried in the backyard of her home in Tijuana last month. She'd been shot in the head. They'd been searching for her for weeks. Around the time she disappeared, Gonzalez' husband showed up at a hospital in San Diego with a gunshot wound. He declined to talk with the media Monday afternoon. "It really hurts that they can support someone like that. Even my sister's husband was here supporting the murder of my sister and that really hurts me," said Gonzalez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego woman says she was the victim of a violent attack inside her hotel room at the high-end Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.Jacquee Renna is accusing the front desk staff of handing out her room number and a key without her permission. The hotel is staying tight-lipped about the apparent security breach, but it's giving details to the courts."I haven't felt safe since then," Renna said. "Suddenly, I heard the door kind of jiggle and I thought [room service] was coming to get our plates," she explains. She and her boyfriend were finishing dinner inside their hotel room when she says her ex-husband was able to unlock the door and break through the security latch."I saw the key in his hands so he had the key," she tells us. "He threw me over onto the bed. I could see rage in his face."Court documents claim her ex-husband punched her boyfriend in the face, dragged him at least twenty feet and kicked him in the head. Renna says her ex-husband then ran out to the parking lot, where he apparently slashed her boyfriend's tires, before leaving."[My boyfriend] had bruises and scrapes. I think we were both really in shock," she says. "The Omni has a responsibility to provide safe and secure rooms to their guests," says her attorney, Robert Fitzpatrick. He's helping her sue the hotel chain for negligence.Renna says that after the attack, the hotel manager apologized to her and said the hotel's front desk person had given the key to her ex-husband. Fitzpatrick adds, "Omni should never have given a key to the hotel room and they should have not disclosed the hotel room number."Hotel room attacks are uncommon but have made headlines in Southern California.Earlier this year, Covina police say security video caught a pastor lurking outside a Los Angeles hotel room, touching himself as he watched two girls who were alone inside. Officers report he later forced his way into the room and assaulted an 11-year-old. He was charged, but has pleaded "not guilty".Disturbing 2014 security video out of Kern County captured a front desk worker handing a room key to a man accused of posing as a female guest's boyfriend, before he reportedly fumbled with the room's peep hole, went inside, and sexually assaulted the woman while she was sleeping. He's seen running out with his pants around his ankles. He was convicted and a jury found that the hotel was partially responsible for the assault.It begs the question, who is responsible for making sure hotels in San Diego are keeping guests safe?  According to the San Diego Hotel-Motel Association, the San Diego Tourism Authority, local hotel negligence attorneys and private security professionals. None of them knew of any local, state or federal authority that has oversight. Hotels are left to police themselves. The Omni Hotel chain denied our request for an interview to discuss the new lawsuit, citing that it doesn't talk about pending litigation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Almost 2,000 people gathered in San Diego to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday at the 38th annual Human Dignity Award breakfast in Mission Valley. “He fought and gave his life not just for African Americans but for everyone,” said Dee Sanford, this year’s honoree. Sanford stared a telecommunications business in 1994, was an adjunct professor at colleges, and created public access television and radio stations. “You don't do it for honor but when someone remembers and acknowledges your work, it’s really a humbling experience,” she said. My father was part of the civil rights movement. He was our king,” said Sanford. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A stolen trailer belonging to a local Boy Scout troop has been recovered, but nearly all of the inventory is gone.Some wooden poles and some cooking supplies are what they found in a previously stuffed trailer. Nearly 50 scouts strong, Boy Scout Troop 11 out of University City was prepping for a camping trip when the packed trailer recently disappeared from a church parking lot.  The trailer contained all of the troop's camping equipment - some ,000 worth - from tents and stoves to cooking equipment, used for the camping trips and cooking events for homeless shelters.
