DENVER, Colorado — A gunman did not go to Arapahoe High School "this past Friday" with the intention of killing people.According to a post that's been circulating on Facbook for awhile, the shooter was "the only one dead" after an "armed school resource officer confronted him." That post has been recirculating following a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14, 2018, which has spurred a bigger national conversation about arming teachers and about gun control.There was not a school shooting incident in Arapahoe recently, nor on Dec. 11, 2015. There was a shooting at the school Dec. 13, 2013 in which a shooter, an 18-year-old senior and debate club member, did shoot another student, who died several days later. The gunman also attempted to start a fire in the school and eventually shot himself in the head.According to fact-checker website Snopes.com, a school custodian saw the shooter and alerted security personnel. Those security professionals were joined by a deputy, but none shot the gunman.They did help minimize casualties by directing civilians at the scene and racing to confront the shooter.CNN reports the entire incident was over in 80 seconds. DENVER — Convicted murderer Chris Watts has been moved from a Colorado prison to another prison out of state.Four sources confirm to KMGH's Jace Larson that Chris Watts was transferred from the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, where a new prison inmate goes after conviction, to an undisclosed facility out of state. Victims’ families -- who requested to be alerted -- have been notified, two of the four sources with knowledge of the movement told KMGH. Watts' current location has not been identified, except to victims' families, the source said.Watts pleaded guilty last month to killing his pregnant wife Shanann Watts and their two young daughters at their home in Frederick, Colorado in August. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.The Colorado Department of Corrections inmate locator shows Watts' location as the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, but this is no longer the case.The move occurred as part of an interstate compact where high-profile prisoners can be moved to another state’s system, or occasionally the federal prison system, for safety. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Renting or owning a home in Del Mar is way out of reach for most San Diego families. But unlike other coastal cities, Del Mar has zero affordable apartments. Instead, Del Mar subsidizes rent for six low-income families. On Monday, the county's smallest city could get on the way to offering affordable homes. The Del Mar City Council could move to take advantage of a new state law that streamlines permitting for accessory dwelling units, like a granny flat in the backyard or a separate apartment within a house. The city may ask families who build those units to commit to leasing them to low-income families for thirty years. In exchange, the homeowners would get an additional 500 square feet of space above current zoning when they want to add on to their properties. “There is nothing that brings me to life or makes me feel more at home than being near the coast, and I think it's a blessing and wonderful opportunity,” said Kari Arendsen, who was visiting Dog Beach.  The city is hoping to start the program with two homeowners, but ultimately aims to get 22 affordable homes on line. The affordable homes would be for families earning at least 80 percent of the median income, so a family of two earning about ,200 a year would qualify. DETROIT, Mich. — Thousands of packages are stacked up inside a metro Detroit mail distribution center as a perfect storm of the pandemic, holiday mail volume, and what some call poor planning, which could spoil the holidays.Those mail delays are also costing local business owners dearly.A beautiful ad celebrating the hardworking men and women of the US Postal Service is airing on TV these days, as a singer croons, “I’ll be home for Christmas, you can count on me.” But for small business owners like Alicia Christensen, the post office has hit a low note.“I’m not counting on them, because I had to shut my shop down. I can’t rely on the flowers to get there before Christmas,” said Christensen.Christensen makes hand-painted aluminum wreaths and wall art shaped like flowers. In January, this artist from Wixom opened her “Bendable Blooms” shop on the website ‘Etsy.’ But the wreaths she mailed to customers on Nov. 29 got stuck “in transit” at the USPS Detroit Network Distribution Center (NDC) in Allen Park.“My Etsy shoppers are starting to contact me, wanting either their money back or wanting to know where these are at,” said Christensen.Christensen was forced to choose between losing about 0 by refunding customers, or getting bad reviews which can have a long-term impact on her business. Combs says the USPS restructuring ordered by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy added to the backlog caused by the pandemic and normal holiday mail volume increases. Combs says some of that restructuring means employees based in metro Detroit now report to managers out of state.“They should have started hiring these seasonal people much earlier than they did, I would say back in May, June or July-- getting prepared to bring those new people on. The tractor-trailer guys that I represent would have needed to have more trailers, even if they needed to be purchased or rented. So you can have a place to have this mail staged to be able to move smoothly from point A to point B,” Combs told 7 Investigator Heather Catallo. “I don’t think that happened. And there needed to be some thought process on how the mail flow was going to operate inside the building so that the safety of the employees was addressed and you didn’t have so much mail that there was not even walking room in some of these plants.”Combs says letters are also piled up at the USPS facility on W. Fort Street in Detroit. He says he and other union leaders reached out to management last May to prepare for the holiday “peak” as postal workers call it. Combs said their requests fell on deaf ears.“Postal employees are so diligent in what they do and feel like they need to do a great job all the time, as they do. I’m getting calls from my members and employees saying this is a problem, we need to be better. And again, they’re doing such a great job with trying to get this mail delivered.
