Retail giants like Kohl’s and Target have announced huge holiday openings, with Kohl’s planning to hire 90,000 holiday associates. Target is also opening up 130,000 seasonal jobs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Explosions in a fake Mission Valley city teach the public and West Coast gas employees how to save lives.Training Supervisor Scott Hazlett says it's as easy as calling 8-1-1 two days before you plan to do any digging on your property.The importance highlighted after a Murrieta home exploded Monday from an ignited natural gas leak, killing one man and forcing four families out of their homes."There's a lot of potential sources of ignition, cigarette liters, cellphones, cameras, drones anything like that can actually you know ignite the gas, and create what you saw here today," Hazlett said after demonstrating what 60 lbs. of natural gas pressure lit on fire looks like. Onlookers described it as a fireball, with heat radiating feet in all directions.The lines are generally between two and three feet underground. "I wouldn't say anyone's safe... Anytime you're moving the earth other than with your hand any kind of shovel, you need to call that number," he said.An SDGE employee will come out within two days after the call, mark where the natural gas lines are around your property, and do it all for free.Hazlett said accidents happen often and the number of calls for repairs skyrocketed in 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Francis Parker School officials say a vendor that handles some of the school's backup data was victim of a ransomware attack in May. The school says third-party cloud computing provider, Blackbaud, Inc., notified them on July 16 of the cyberattack. Criminals demanded payment in return for destroying information they copied from Blackbaud's database, the school said.School officials warned parents that the compromised database may have included contact information, birth dates, and a history of relationships with the school, including donation dates and amounts. The school said the attackers did not access credit card information, social security, or other personal financial information and had no access to the school's systems.Blackbaud paid the ransomware and says based on the nature of the incident and investigations with law enforcement, there's no reason to believe any data went beyond the cybercriminals or was, or will be, misused.Francis Parker officials said they are reevaluating their relationship with Blackbaud. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For six years a Camp Pendleton Recon Marine allowed filmmakers full access into his life, which at one point hit rock bottom. The GI Film Festival documentary, Homemade, aims to start a conversation on taking better care of our returning veterans. Staff Sgt. Adam Sorensen was injured in 2010 by an explosive device in Afghanistan; 100 pieces of shrapnel pierced his body, and he required two surgeries.He could no longer serve in a combat role and spent the next couple of years as an instructor. The documentary follows Sorensen as he navigates civilian life and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and addiction on his marriage, family, and work.Filmmakers Danielle Bernstein and Jason Maris included scenes that can be hard to watch. "For me, it ultimately is to help people, because that's the whole reason I really wanted to make something that looked at how is this affecting people, families," said Maris.
