(KGTV) — Nearly 50 years after 15 men lost their lives at Naval Air Station Miramar, one man recounted his memories hoping to keep their story alive.Monday, Dec. 22, 1969 was Darwin Ludi's first day back from Christmas vacation. He was on rotation at the Balboa Naval Hospital in the morgue as a Navy Corpsman.When he walked in that morning he described the horrifying sight, "there were body bags along the hallway and I was like, 'What is going on?" He said the initial shock stayed with him for months and to this day is his strongest memory."We did the autopsies over a couple of days and the smell just lingered," he said somberly.Photos from MCAS Miramar's archives capture the panic and pain. MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says that a coronavirus vaccine developed in his country has been cleared for use and one of his daughters has already been inoculated, even as international experts have questioned its safety. Putin added that the vaccine underwent the necessary tests, saying that one of his two adult daughters has received two shots of the vaccine. (KGTV)- A bike giveaway in National City will go on during the Pandemic, continuing a five decade tradition of helping low-income families in Southern San Diego."The motorcycle community steps up to the plate every year," says organizer Brian "Snowman" Trum, with the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club. "This year was pretty grim with the COVID and everything."Traditionally, people line up in National City for the giveaway. Some even camp out over night. The motorcycle club gives away hundreds of bikes and toys every year.But County health restrictions make much of that impossible during the Pandemic.Trum says his group made sweeping changes to the way they'll do the event this year, to keep everyone safe."We have masks to give away for people who don't have them. We'll have tape in the street for where you can stand, where you shouldn't stand. And we have gallons of hand sanitizer," he says.Santa will also make an appearance, but this year he'll be behind a booth to keep social distance. In addition to the physical aspects of running the bike giveaway, the Pandemic also brought problems with donations. Trum says his group usually starts buying and building bikes before Thanksgiving, but this year they had no money at that time.Some late donations helped salvage the event, showing how generous the community can be."After a couple weeks, money started coming in. MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The contractor involved in Monday’s deadly gas explosion in Murrieta did not call 811 as required by law, according to officials. One SoCalGas worker was killed in the explosion and more than a dozen people were injured. If a homeowner or contractor plans to do any digging into the ground, there must be a call placed to 811 two working days in advance, according to state law. Investigators say a solar company was working on the Murrieta home when the explosion occurred. That company, Horizon Solar Power, would not specifically address the incident. A spokesperson told Team 10: “Yesterday, four members of our team were at the site of a residential explosion in Murrieta. We are working with authorities and collecting facts to better understand what happened. Our primary thoughts are with the people who were injured and their families, including with the family of the person who lost his life.”An SDG&E spokesperson said 811 must be called for projects including landscaping, fence, and patio projects. In San Diego County when you place that call, SDG&E will mark the location of buried utility owned pipelines and other lines.
