"Flap Your Jacks" is bringing its own take on the traditional breakfast dish to North Park later this summer. The eatery will take over 3020 University Ave. with a bright, modern space featuring a custom art installation of "thousands" of spatulas hanging from the ceiling and a syrup-topped stack of "pancakes" on the building's facade.RELATED: 9 San Diego restaurants named most scenic in AmericaA menu packed with breakfast and brunch favorites will be offered from the kitchen, in addition to several freshly-squeezed juice options, "energy shots," and signature cocktails to jump start the day. But perhaps the most fun will be found in the breakfast joint's unique approach to pancakes, which guests can customize on their own.Each table will be outfitted with a personal griddle, inviting guests to put on their own chef hat and create their favorite pancakes from a variety of homemade batter flavors and toppings. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities confirmed Monday that a deadly shooting in Chula Vista and a second shooting at Sunset Cliffs in April are related.Police say three people, Britney Canal known as "Giggles", 29, Cesar Alvarado, known as "Capone", 39, and Michael Pedraza, known as "Monster", 27, have been charged and are being held without bail for the deadly crime spree.According to a prosecutor, the murder charges with special circumstances may lead to the death penalty. To illustrate the callous nature of the suspects, the District Attorney said the three celebrated after killing a man in Chula Vista.  627

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Arson investigators Saturday were looking into multiple fires set within a three-mile radius of each other in Ocean Beach and Point Loma.The first fire was set at about 1 a.m. on Muir Ave. in Ocean Beach. Three more fires were set on Piedmont Dr. and Catalina Pl. in the Point Loma area, San Diego Fire-Resuce Department said.No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Each fire was set in rubbish behind homes, according to SDFD. Due to the proximity and similarities between the small fires, fire officials said the fires were "suspicious" and arson investigators were looking at whether they were connected. No arrests have been made."The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) is investigating several suspicious rubbish fires which occurred last night in the Point Loma and Ocean Beach communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a man's death after they say he died following a fight. Police were called to the 5600 block of Imperial Avenue in Valencia Park around 1:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a man having chest pains. After arriving, the 51-year-old man -- identified as San Diego resident Joseph Ives -- was taken to the hospital where he later died.Police later learned that Ives got into a fight shortly before his death. According to police, after an altercation with another man, Ives told a witness that he was experiencing chest pains. Ives "did not have any obvious signs of trauma to his body," police said. Out of caution, San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the death.  773

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Civil rights activists called for change Monday following the publication of a cartoon in the San Diego Union Tribune the group described as an “insulting image”. Rev. Shane Harris, president of the People’s Alliance for Justice, and other San Diego leaders held a news conference after a meeting with UT publisher Jeff Light.San Diego Union Tribune cartoonist Steve Breen created a picture of authors James Baldwin and Toni Morrison, and actor Jussie Smollett, with the title “Famous African American Story Tellers," according to Harris' email. The image was published Friday, Harris said."It was egregious to us all," Harris said at his news conference.Smollett is accused of falsely reporting being attacked by two masked men in Chicago. He reportedly told police his attackers yelled racial and anti-gay slurs and referenced President Donald Trump's campaign slogan, according to the Associated Press.Harris demanded last week that Smollett be fired from his role in the show, "Empire."Monday, Harris said Breen apologized for the cartoon.
