Editor's note: Some language used may be disturbing for some.“She was following me right behind me just yelling at me, saying that I wasn’t a Chicana, that I’m a ‘wetback’ and started taunting me walking in circles around me, yelling at me that I was a ‘wetback’ to get out, that I was trash, that I was dirt,” stated Gabriela Frausto.Frausto moved to Phoenix from Colorado two years ago. She owns a small bakery in west Phoenix and says she was shocked to face such a disturbing encounter at her own business, but says she never expected what happened next.“She was trying to light me on fire.”“It took me a while to realize that she was throwing gas at me. When I saw her struggling with the lighter, that’s when it clicked on me, what she was trying to do. She was trying to light me on fire and that's when I decided to run inside,” said Frausto. The incident happened in August, and it was all caught on her surveillance video.According to police reports, the suspect was identified as Araceli Soledad Aguilera and was arrested in August for aggravated assault, serious physical injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.According to MCSO, she was then released from custody.“I’ve seen her around here. She still comes around here, and she still has her fights with people here. She hasn’t stopped doing it,” said Frausto.A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department released the following statement:Phoenix Police Detectives assigned to the Bias Crimes Units investigated this incident and were able to determine the crime was biased motivated. The enhancement charge was submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney Office. But Carlos Galindo-Elvira with Chicanos por la Causa says changes are needed.“Should we be concerned? Absolutely. Should we be vigilant? Always. But we also need to make sure we’re promoting for our communities of color, LGBTQ and Muslim communities,” said Galindo-Elvira.According to the most recent report by the FBI, hate crimes against Hispanics or Latinos rose from 485 in 2018 to 527 last year.Based on this report, Arizona had 143 cases reported last year all over someone’s race, ethnicity or ancestry.Galindo-Elvira says the reality is that there could be more cases because usually, people in communities of color won’t report it.“We got to get better numbers. Not every jurisdiction reported hate crimes.”The FBI report says there were 111 racial or ethnic hate crimes in Phoenix last year. Of 92 participating agencies, only 17 submitted incident reports.“It’s a requirement to submit those numbers, but what we need it’s for our elected officials to mandate it. Whether it’s the mayor or council, county supervisors to tell their jurisdictions to report it, let’s get the best numbers possible, let’s see what we’re really dealing with,” said Galindo-Elvira.For Frausto, there’s also a need to raise awareness about what constitutes a hate crime.“I didn’t know that just by the fact of the use of those words it changes the charges that are going to be filed against her and maybe other people don’t know either.” This story originally reported by Liliana Soto on ABC15.com. 3151

A Ukrainian passenger jet carrying 176 people crashed just minutes after taking off from the Iranian capital's main airport, turning farmland on the outskirts of Tehran into fields of flaming debris and killing all on board. The crash of Ukraine International Airlines came hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Iraqi bases housing U.S. soldiers. Iranian officials said they suspected a mechanical issue brought down the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The Ukrainian Embassy initially said they did not believe the crash was terror related, but later pulled that statement. "Information on the causes of the plane crash is being clarified by the commission," the embassy said, according to CNN. Among those killed in the crash were 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians were killed in the crash, according to CNN. Ukraine's foreign minister says Swedish, Afghan, British and German nationals were also among those killed. Canadian Foreign Minister Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne says he's been in touch with the government of Ukraine since the crash. He called it tragic news and said Wednesday that Canada's "hearts are with the loved ones of the victims, including many Canadians." CNN reports that Iran will not hand over the black boxes containing flight information over to the United States or to Boeing. Iran says it has no obligation to provide the information to the U.S. under international aviation law.Commercial airlines are rerouting flights crossing the Middle East to avoid possible danger amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Australian carrier Qantas says it's altering its London to Perth, Australia, routes to avoid Iranian and Iraqi airspace until further notice. Malaysia Airlines says that “due to recent events,” its planes would avoid Iranian airspace. Singapore Airlines also says its flights to Europe would avoid Iran. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has barred American pilots and carriers from flying in areas of Iraqi, Iranian and some Persian Gulf airspace. Analysts say that changed flight plans are expected to inconvenience as many as 15,000 passengers per day and lengthen flight times by an average of 30 to 90 minutes. 2218

CHICAGO – This past May, Harrisburg University won ESPN’s inaugural College Esports Championship. In 2018, the college became the first to award full-ride scholarships to its entire 16-player roster. With gaming programs expanding and an estimated million in esport scholarships up for grabs, elite players are finding themselves in high demand. Just ask 16-year-old Elgin, Illinois high school junior Jonathan Huffman. He’s been playing online since he was 13 and regularly spends hours at his bedroom gaming station. When asked how good a player he really is, Huffman wryly responds. “Very good. I don’t really say it too much but I’m one of the best in the world I would think,” he said. In fact, Huffman is so good he needs a live camera trained on his hands during gameplay streaming to prove to others he’s not hacking the system. “Whenever people accuse me, they just look at the hand-cam and it kind of fixes the issue,” he said. Huffman’s game of choice is Overwatch. Online he’s known as “MyCrazyCatOW.”He regularly ranks among the top 50 competitive players in the world. As a result, colleges and universities are clamoring to recruit players like him. “To give an analogy – like in professional basketball he’s up there in the echelons of the Steph Currys, the Lebron Jameses of the world,” explained Alan Gadbois. Gadbois is a recruiter for Next College Student Athlete the official recruiting partner of the 1443

View this post on Instagram Thanks to everyone who has been reaching out since hearing the news about my positive test. We are all learning more about the seriousness of this situation and hopefully people can continue to educate themselves and realize that they need to behave responsibly both for their own health and for the well being of those around them. I appreciate the authorities in Oklahoma who were helpful with the testing process and everyone from the @utahjazz who have been so supportive. I am going to keep following the advice of our medical staff and hope that we can all come together and be there for each other and our neighbors who need our help???? A sociology professor says all those images that pop up on social media showing Halloween candy with razor blades and drugs aren't really a legitimate concern. Joel Best at the University of Delaware has been looking into these reported incidents since the ‘80s. That was the decade when so many of these reports started getting attention. Best says since then, there have been zero cases of children dying from eating contaminated treats from Halloween. His report, 480
