SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of fatally stabbing a 65-year-old clerk inside an adult bookstore in the Midway District pleaded not guilty Friday to felony murder charges that could lead to the death penalty if he's convicted.Shaun Ward, 39, was non-responsive and kept his head down during his arraignment. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Lab-confirmed flu cases increased countywide last week for the second consecutive week, county health officials announced Wednesday.The county Health and Human Services Agency confirmed 74 flu cases, an increase of 22 cases over the revised 52 confirmed the previous week. The county confirmed 30 cases during the week of Oct. 20-26.County health officials have confirmed 475 flu cases to date since tracking for the 2019-2020 flu season began July 1. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Eight residents and two pets were displaced Tuesday when a fire caused by electrical failure broke out in a Grantville apartment building, authorities said.The noninjury blaze was reported shortly after 5:35 a.m. at a two-story apartment building on Reflection Drive, in The Village Mission Valley apartment complex off Santo Road and Friars Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof of one apartment building, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said, adding that all residents were able to escape safely before firefighters arrived.Firefighters knocked down the flames and kept the fire contained to an apartment on the second floor, Munoz said. A time of knockdown was not available.One other apartment on the second floor and one apartment on the first floor sustained smoke and water damage, she said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Wednesday publicly identified a Chula Vista city employee found slain in his home near Mount Helix.Chula Vista police personnel conducting a welfare check at the request of a co-worker found the body of 38-year-old Kevin Powell in his residence in the 4400 block of Carmen Drive in Casa De Oro shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.Because the neighborhood is in an unincorporated area, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called in to take charge of the case, said sheriff's Lt.
