BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) - China's Ministry of Agriculture Friday urged local authorities in flood-hit regions to step up efforts to resume agricultural production and create favorable conditions for the autumn harvest following this summer's severe floods.Local departments were ordered to accelerate water drainage, restore damaged infrastructures, strengthen field management, and plant mung bean, potatoes and buckwheat, which have short growth periods, to make up for losses, according to an official from the ministry.The official also required departments to clear away and carry out bio-safety disposal of dead livestock, while increasing epidemic control measures.As of July 21, more than 7 million hectares of farmland in China had been destroyed by torrential rains and floods, according to data from the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

This week, the Sichuan provincial higher people's court upheld Tan's five-year prison term.Qin said, China's justice department handled the case independently according to the Chinese law.The EU declaration has interfered in China's judicial affairs," Qin said. SHANGHAI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- All entertainment activities at the Shanghai World Expo will be suspended Sunday in a show of respect for the victims of a massive mudslide in northwest China's Gansu Province.The Chinese national flags at the Expo Garden would fly at half-mast, and both the music broadcast at the opening and during the day would be stopped, the Shanghai Expo Bureau announced Saturday.Sun Weimin, the Expo Bureau's concierge director, said flags of the Bureau of International Expositions and the Shanghai World Expo would also fly at half-mast.Other Expo participants could decide for themselves whether to fly their flags at half-mast.The announcement was in line with that of the State Council, China's cabinet, which ordered suspension of all public entertainment and that Chinese flags fly at half-mast Sunday.The mudslide, which hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, on Aug. 8 has killed at least 1,239 people and an estimated 505 are still missing.According to the Expo Bureau, the Gansu Pavilion will hold a "solemn and simple" ceremony starting 10 a.m. Sunday. BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- There have been no reports of an epidemic outbreak or public health incident in the northwestern Zhouqu County that was hit by a massive mudslide Sunday, a health official said Wednesday.Zhang Guoxin, vice director of the emergency office of the Health Ministry, made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing.Emergency medical rescue work was coming to an end and now epidemic prevention was the priority for health authorities, Zhang said.At least 702 people were killed and 1,042 others are missing after Sunday's mudslide.A total of 422 injured have been treated as of 10 a.m. Wednesday. All those who were seriously hurt have been sent to hospitals in the cities of Lanzhou and Tianshui, Zhang said.A survivor who was rescued 60 hours after the mudslide has been transferred to the Gansu Provincial People's Hospital and was currently in stable condition."All the injured have been properly treated," Zhang said.Forty-seven civilian and military medical teams with 779 members are working in Zhouqu, nine of whom are extremely well qualified and rank among the best in the country.A total area of 310,000 square meters has been sterilized by the teams.Health authorities have prepared 50,000 pamphlets on health risks for local residents.Zhang said health authorities were attempting to rebuild hospitals and clinics in Zhouqu as quickly as possible.
