SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As a Hillcrest man showered in his apartment, an intruder was helping himself to a "priceless" pendant.The surveillance video that Ramon Castillo has seen countless times remains hard to watch."Scary and very disturbing," said Castillo.In late June on a Monday morning just before 9, Castillo was showering in his apartment on 3rd Avenue. What he didn't know know: he wasn't alone. When Castillo got out of the shower after 20 minutes, the screen door which had been locked was completely open. Surveillance video revealed why. In it, a man pauses at the door and somehow gets past the screen door, before quietly raiding the apartment. Among the items stolen were speakers and a safe from a bedroom closet. Inside the safe: cash, personal documents and jewelry, including a silver pendant containing the ashes of her mother. She passed away in 2015 from an accidental drug overdose."I can't replace that. It's the last thing of my mom and now I don't have anything," said Castillo.The thief who snatched it was in and out in about five minutes. He was seen driving off in a sedan. Castillo say the burglar had to have heard the shower running and went in anyways."He didn't think twice about it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Cesar Rivera thought he'd achieved the American Dream when he and his wife bought a house just north of Mission Valley. "I moved in, I loved the area, I loved my neighbors," he says. "I want my boys to have this house when we grow old."But whether Rivera's family will last in long enough in the area remains to be seen. These days, Rivera is on anxiety medication. He says it's because of the home next door that became a vacation rental shortly after he moved in. He says it can rage any night of the week. "They go on arguing and yelling, and they're out there for hours," Rivera said. "They don't stop. He also says the owner, Lael Volage, is not responsive: a claim she vehemently disputes. At any rate, it's exactly the situation the City Council aimed to avoid when it passed strict regulations in 2018. The rules would have limited vacation rentals to primary homes and structures on the same parcel. The rules also would have required many hosts to pay a 5 fee to fund a new enforcement division that would have worked evenings and weekends. But Airbnb led a successful referendum, and the council rescinded the law. "It's a free-for-all," said Volage. "Nobody wants a party at their house. We try to regulate it. "If you're a homeowner, you're allowed to have a barbeque, you're allowed to have beer pong in the backyard, and be able to have some music playing until 6, 7, 8, 9 even 10 o'clock," Volage said. She said vacationers should have the same rights, and that Rivera's problem is that his bedroom is right above the street. San Diego Police say they have been called to Volage's rental three times since May for noise complaints. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities responded Wednesday after a car slammed into the side of a motel in Point Loma.According to firefighters, the crash happened on the 1300 block of Scott Street at the Vagabond Inn San Diego Airport Marina.The driver was parked in the Point Loma Seafood parking lot when she reportedly hit the gas, driving through a fence and smashing into the side of the motel.The crash created a hole in a bathroom of one of the motel rooms. No one was injured in the crash. 499

The parade, which is San Diego’s largest single-day civic event, attracts some 250,000 people every year. Marching begins at the Hillcrest Pride Flag at University Avenue and Normal Street. The parade moves west down University, turns south on Sixth Avenue, left onto Balboa Drive, and ends at Quince Drive. The parade is free for spectators, but you’ll want to bring cash to buy water or food from one of the businesses along the route. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Authorities are looking for an inmate who walked away from a San Diego rehabilitation facility.Steven Vargas, 53, was last seen at 10 a.m. Tuesday after leaving the San Diego's Male Community Reentry Program, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Vargas had been given permission to leave the facility but didn't return when required.The facility allows eligible offenders with one year left to serve to do so in re-entry centers, providing them with rehabilitation services that assist them with substance use disorders, mental health care, employment, education, housing, and more. Officials said they were alerted that Vargas' electronic monitoring device had been tampered with just before noon Tuesday.Vargas was sentenced to four years in prison on May 6, 2019 for vehicle theft with prior vehicle related theft convictions and grand theft of a firearm. He was scheduled to be released on parole in June.Vargas is described as a Hispanic male, 6-feet tall, and weighs about 192 pounds. He was last seen wearing faded black jeans, black shoes, a blue shirt, and a charcoal grey sweater.
