SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — St. Augustine High School, an all-boys Catholic school in North Park, has filed a lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state officials to allow the school to reopen for in-person instruction.The school says that after holding its summer school and athletic programs in-person for more than 400 students without any reports of COVID-19 cases, they are seeking to stop the state's enforcement against in-person classes during the pandemic this fall."At Saints, we don’t believe remote learning is sufficient to provide a quality education our students are entitled to and our families have come to expect," said Principal James Horne. "We are confident we can open our school safely, consistent with CDC and San Diego County health guidance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System has approved a plan to convert all of the agency's 800 buses to a zero-emission fleet by 2040.The agency will send its plan to the California Air Resources Board for certification. State regulations require public transit agencies to gradually transition to all-zero emission bus fleets by 2040.MTS' plan aims to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by about 43% over the next 19 years. The cost of the full transition is about 1 million over that same time frame. It will cost about 5 million more to acquire land and build a new facility to accommodate additional electric buses, according to MTS.A "first-in-the-nation" overhead gantry system is also included in the plans to automate charging."MTS has been testing six electric buses in revenue service over the past 10 months and we’ve been very pleased with their performance," said Sharon Cooney, MTS Chief Executive Officer. "The performance data makes us confident that we can make a transition to an entire fleet of zero-emissions buses over the next 19 years, and continue to provide the highest quality of service our passengers expect and deserve."The busses will be rolled out in priority to routes through communities considered by MTS to experience the most negative impacts of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental health. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Siblings are frantically searching for their missing mother, after she walked out of Hospital Angeles in Tijuana Friday afternoon, according to her family.Jessica Puente, 73, accompanied her daughter, Johnica, for a surgery. When Johnica woke up, her mother was gone. "First thing I was like where's my mom, where's my mom? And they were like we don't know where she went," Johnica said.After questioning staff, a security monitor revealed Jessica walked out while speaking with the security guard at 11 a.m. Jessica asked the guard where to exchange money, Johnica said. She thinks her mom was going to find something to eat."We'll leave no stone unturned in Tijuana," her brother said Sunday night. He and their other brother flew into San Diego over the weekend, from their Seattle home, to help with the search."We tried to call the consulate but they're closed, we um called all these hospitals, we even went to the morgue, they went to the morgue this morning to see if there are any unidentified bodies," Johnica said they filed a police report with San Diego PD, passed out fliers in Mexico and have been using their connections to churches to spread the word.Johnica described her mother as shy, and says when she gets tired, she can get a little confused. She said her mother liked to dress up with flowers in her hair, jewelry, "her jacket and her shoes, she always liked to match, even though she's almost 73." Jessica is not only a mother of three, but grandmother to a little boy and girl, both under 10-years-old.When we asked how Johnica was able to stay so calm while talking about her mother's disappearance, she replied, "I don't know I just believe that she'll come up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small businesses trying to stay afloat amid coronavirus restrictions can apply for up to million in forgivable low-interest loans to help them get by. The Federal Small Business Administration has opened its application site for businesses with fewer than 500 employees to apply for the loans, which would have an interest rate of no more than 4 percent. The loans are part of the stimulus package Congress and the President authorized last week. They are meant to help small businesses maintain payroll and meet essential obligations like rent, mortgages and utilities at a time social distancing has eliminated most consumer spending. "Forgiveness will be reduced if full-time headcount declines, or if salaries and wages decrease."Kelly DuFord Williams, a managing partner at Slate Law Group, says this is an unprecedented opportunity for small businesses, given the low interest loan offer and six months of deferred payments.
