NEW YORK — Businessman and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang has filed papers to enter the already crowded Democratic field in the race for mayor of New York City in 2021. Yang filed papers with the New York City Campaign Finance Board Wednesday to join the race. Yang, a CNN commentator following his run for president, now arguably has the highest national profile of any of the candidates. The former ambassador for global entrepreneurship under President Barack Obama has not officially announced his run. Yang grew up in Westchester County, went to law school at Columbia and began his legal career in New York City. The NYC CFB said that Yang is joining the city’s -to- matching funds program. You can find out how that works here. The field in the Democratic primary is already awash with candidates with profiles both local and nationwide. Soon-to-be former Congressman Max Rose, City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Brooklyn Borough President Erik Adams, former national HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, Citigroup executive Raymond McGuire, City Councilmember Carlos Menchaca and former counsel to Mayor Bill De Blasio Maya Wiley are just some of the candidates who have declared on the Democratic side. NEW YORK, N.Y. – Joe Biden and Mike Pence crossed paths at a 9/11 memorial service in New York on Friday. The former and current vice presidents were both masked and greeted each other with an elbow bump to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The opponents were at Ground Zero to honor the lives lost there during the terrorist attacks 19 years ago. Their exchange on the anniversary of the 2001 attacks represents a brief pause to an already bitter presidential campaign. At the NYC event organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Pence and his wife read Bible passages. Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo were also in attendance.Friday afternoon, Biden is expected to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which honors the passengers who stopped the terrorists who hijacked their plane from reaching their presumed target, the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.President Donald Trump spoke at the site’s annual memorial ceremony Friday morning. The two nominees are not expected to cross paths. 1110

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Mary Trump called on her uncle, President Donald Trump, to resign during her first television interview since the release of her tell-all book. While speaking with ABC News, she also discussed visiting President Trump in the White House in 2017, a few months after the inauguration. In one clip from the interview, Mary Trump essentially says that her uncle is unfit for office and dangerous."And I just remember thinking, 'he seems tired. He seems like this is not what he signed up for, if he even knows what he signed up for.' And I thought his response was actually more enlightening than my statement. And he said, 'they won't get me.' And so far, looks like he's right," she said. When George Stephanopoulos asked Mary Trump what she would say to her uncle if she was in the Oval Office today, she said, “resign.” She thinks the president is incapable of leading the country and said it’s dangerous to allow him to do so.President Trump's brother, Robert, took Mary Trump and her publisher to court to try to block the book's release and block Mary Trump from talking about it. However, on Monday, the New York State Supreme Court lifted a temporary restraining order, allowing the author to promote her book.Mary Trump is the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., who died after a long bout with alcoholism. During the interview, she claimed her father was “punished for being kind, for being generous… for having interests outside what my grandfather thought was acceptable.”Mary Trump’s ABC interview reflects much of what’s detailed in her book, "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man." In it, she writes a scathing depiction of her uncle, drawing on her own memories, conversations with relatives, and pertinent documents. 1787

NEW YORK (AP) — A new federal report shows vaping rates among U.S. teenagers fell dramatically this year. The drop comes in the wake of last year's outbreak of vaping-related illnesses and deaths. The national survey found that just under 20% of high school students and 5% of middle schools students were recent users of electronic cigarettes and other vaping products. That marks a big decline from a similar survey last year that found about 28% of high school students and about 11% of middle school students recently vaped. That's a decline of about 1.8 million teens total. The survey was done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They looked at survey data from middle school and high school students, grades 6-12.Despite the progress in lowering the number of teens using e-cigarettes, there are 3.6 million youth who currently use them. Of those, almost 83% use flavored e-cigarettes or vaping products. In addition to the survey, the FDA announced their premarket review requirement of tobacco products to ensure they go through a “robust scientific evaluation” before hitting store shelves. 1156
