LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two women on vacation in San Diego had their trip ruined when thieves stole all of their luggage.Vivia Bradshaw and Yvonne Simpson live in Florida and New York. For the last 15 years, they've made regular trips to San Diego."We’re always coming back, it is so beautiful, we love the weather especially," says Simpson. "Everything's so beautiful. We've never had a terrible experience coming here before."But their trip this past week turn a turn for the worse on Saturday, while they were visiting with a friend in La Mesa.Simpson and Bradshaw say they had put their luggage in their friend's car at the Woodland Terrace Apartments while they visited his home."When we were ready to leave, I came back to the car and saw something a little strange," says Simpson. "I asked him, was that open? And he saw right away that someone had entered the car. I said check the trunk. He did, all our suitcases were gone. Every last piece. Three of them!"Thieves took all of their clothes, money, gift cards, jewelry, shoes, purses and personal items."Everything's gone," says Simpson. "We know they're replaceable, but it's the sentiment."The two women have been able to buy new clothes and necessities. Now they're trying to make the most out of their week-long trip. They've filed a police report as well. La Mesa Police says they hope surveillance footage can help identify a suspect.Meanwhile, Bradshaw and Simpson have a warning for others."Just be careful," says Bradshaw. (KGTV) — The officer at the center of a controversial arrest filmed in La Mesa is no longer employed with the department, according to the city.City manager Greg Humora said in a release on Friday that former LMPD officer Matt Dages is "not employed by the City of La Mesa in any capacity."The city could not comment on whether Dages resigned or was terminated.In June, video surfaced showing the May 27 altercation that had already started between Dages and 23-year-old Amaurie Johnson at Grossmont Trolley Station. In the video, Dages is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position on a bench and eventually handcuffing and arresting him. LA JOLLA, Calif., (KGTV)— San Diego beaches were bare this Memorial Day Weekend, and as overcast skies and sprinkles kept people from visiting the usual destination spots. May temperatures should be in the 70s, but highs in La Jolla only reached the low 60s.Mother nature dictated beachwear today at La Jolla Shores. Scarves, hoodies, even fluffy parka jackets were on full display."It is really cold," one woman said. "Whoever said it never rains in Southern California, that song, that was a lie," joked another man. The unofficial first weekend of summer in San Diego was much gloomier than expected. For the Gardner family, that meant a change in plans. "We brought the wetsuits out actually, in case it turned into a beach day, but it looks like it's not," Kelsey Gardner laughed. She and her husband Andrew had their boys, Miles and A.J. fly kites instead. 10News did meet a group of men who were excited to jump into the chilly waters. "I am pursuing diving, and here I am taking my certification. I am excited!" Navy sailor Griffin Leboffe said. He and fellow active duty sailor Brian Mims were heading into the waves with their scuba diving instructor, Harvey Forbes. Forbes said days like today are perfect diving weather. "Ambient temperature is colder when you get in, and that's just the way your body works. It actually feels warmer," Forbes said. Plus, low beach attendance meant more available parking, and better concentration during their certification test. "Here, there are a lot less people, and it's more spread out, so I feel like it would be easier to get out there," Leboffe said. But as the divers were heading in, most everyone else was heading out. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old died following a solo-vehicle crash in Lakeside late Saturday night. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Willow Road around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. CHP says the vehicle appears to have been traveling at “a high rate of speed” when the driver lost control, veered off the road and hit a large tree. Three passengers in the vehicle also received injuries ranging from moderate to major. Monday night, friends confirmed with 10News that a second teen, with major injuries, was taken of life support and his organs were donated to help save other lives. Friends identified the teens as Justin Kyte and Isaac Culkin, both 16-years-old.According to CHP, the right front passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
