GOLETA, Calif. (KGTV) - A rare sea creature that’s not supposed to live in the Northern Hemisphere surprised scientists by washing ashore in Goleta last week. The Mola tecta, more commonly known as the hoodwinker sunfish, is a rare species first identified in 2017, according to experts at University of California, Santa Barbara. UCSB reported the fish at Sands Beach in the university's Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve, the Associated Press reported. An intern alerted a reserve staffer who initially thought it was a type of local sunfish. “This is certainly the most remarkable organism I have seen wash up on the beach in my four years at the reserve,” said Jessica Nielsen, a conservation specialist at Coal Oil Point on the UCSB website. “It really was exciting to collect the photos and samples knowing that it could potentially be such an extraordinary sighting.” Scientists have not yet determine how the fish died. 932

Leatherman is professor and director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University.He uses 50 criteria to assess the beaches -- from water and sand quality to amenities, pests and views and vistas.Kapalua, a gorgeous white-sand crescent, is billed as perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and fish food and snorkeling gear are available from a concession hut at the north end of the beach.Lined by palm trees, the beach is protected from waves by the "arms" of lava flows, creating an area teeming with colorful fish.The second-ranked beach is nearly 5,000 miles away on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach is located on Ocracoke Island, which is only accessible via private boat or ferry.Rounding out the top three, the mile-long beach at Grayton Beach State Park is located in a 2,000-acre park on Florida's Panhandle. But others have more hoops for you to jump through."They want you to mail your driver’s license," Grauer said.Even then, removal may not be permanent."You have to repeat this process every three months or so," Grauer says of the privacy service.Grauer says the privacy service, Delete Me, offers to continuously have you removed for an annual fee.But Grauer says the easiest way to keep them out of your business is to "be careful about not giving out your information as much as possible."That could mean using a P.O. box or your work address to receive mail — or using your initials instead of your full name when making purchases. 1316

(AP) -- Authorities say a thief took a break during his burglary of a Southern California pizzeria to make himself a pizza pie before fleeing with the restaurant's delivery car.Police say Oscar Sanchez broke into Big Slice Pizza in Fullerton, Calif., on Nov. 8. He was arrested on Wednesday and police posted security video of the pizza-making on Facebook on Friday.Officials say Sanchez allegedly also stole the pizzeria's cash and tablets.Security footage shows him stretching dough at the restaurant's counter.It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. 620
