WASHINGTON, D.C. – NASA announced this week that astronaut Jeanette Epps has been assigned to its Boeing Starline-1 mission.The mission is the first operational crewed flight of Boeing’s CST-100 Starling spacecraft on a mission to the International Space Station.Epps will join astronauts Sunita Williams and Josh Cassada for a six-month expedition planned for a launch in 2021 to the orbiting space lab.This assignment will also make Epps the first Black woman to live and work in space for an extended period of time, CNBC and USA Today report.Epps reacted to the announcement in a video on Twitter, saying she’s looking forward to the mission. Washington, DC, police have identified a man who shot himself in the head in front of the White House at just before noon Saturday as 26-year-old Cameron Ross Burgess of Maylene, Alabama."At approximately 11:46 am, Burgess approached the vicinity of the North White House fence line and removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds, none of which appear at this time to have been directed towards the White House," the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Sunday.A law enforcement source told CNN the shooter shot his phone before shooting himself. (KGTV) - President Trump addressed questions Tuesday about a possible closure of the U.S.-Mexico border, saying “I’m totally prepared to do it.” Speaking at a White House news conference, Trump called on Congress to make a deal and the Mexican government to stop immigrants from entering Mexico. Trump suggested Mexico had stepped up its efforts to keep Central American migrants from moving north in the past two days. The president also demanded change in what he described as "the worst, dumbest immigration system in the world."“We need to get rid of chain migration, we need to get rid of catch and release, and visa lottery, and we have to do something about asylum, and to be honest with you, we have to get rid of judges,” said Trump. Closing the border would have a severe impact to the U.S. economy, especially in border cities like San Diego. The flow of goods, including avocados and cars, would be disrupted, along with manufacturing supply lines. The Council of Economic Advisers was conducting studies on the potential impact of a border closure and "working with the president to give him those options," said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders. When asked about the economic impact of a border shutdown, Trump said, “To me trading is very important the borders are very important but security is what - the most important.” Trump also left open the possibility of closing sections of the southern border instead of the entire border. WAYNE COUNTY — Four children were killed when a semi struck a car that was slowing in a construction zone on an Indiana interstate Thursday evening.It happened shortly after 5 p.m. on eastbound I-70 in Wayne County, about 70 miles east of Indianapolis.According to Indiana State Police, troopers arrived to find a Chevrolet car and a semi pulling a box trailer both on fire, just west of a construction zone.State police investigators believe the truck did not slow down when it came upon slowed traffic near the construction zone and slammed into the back of a car, pushing it into another semi.Witnesses told the Wayne County Sheriff's Office that the driver of the semi that struck the car from behind was operating in an "erratic manner" prior to the crash. Investigators say evidence revealed that stopped traffic was not a contributing factor to the crash.Preliminary toxicology reports indicated that the driver had multiple drugs in his system at the time of the crash. WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer was in Washington D.C. Tuesday to meet with President Donald Trump and discuss issues impacting San Diego. According to the White House, Faulconer and the President discussed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. While in the White House, Faulconer also raised several concerns facing San Diego including polluted water flowing in the Tijuana River Valley.Faulconer also discussed San Diego’s homeless crisis with Trump, and what the city is doing to solve homelessness. "I had a chance to briefly meet with the President to discuss a few big issues facing San Diego," Faulconer said on Twitter following the meeting.
