BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Wednesday held phone talks with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Faye Locke and Trade Representative Ron Kirk to discuss expansion of China-U.S trade cooperation.Wang and Locke, who is also co-chair of the China-U.S Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT), agreed to enhance the exchange of opinions between two countries and expansion of bilateral cooperation, to ensure the upcoming 21st JCCT would be able to make positive achievements, and contribute to promoting sound and stable development of the China-U.S relationship.The JCCT was established in 1983 as a platform for the two countries to promote trade relations and address issues of mutual concern. BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader He Guoqiang has urged the country' s anti-graft officials to make more efforts to solve prominent corruption-related problems by taking into account the views of the public.He, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made his remarks at an anti-corruption work conference Saturday.He called for more effective anti-corruption efforts to win the trust of the public while promoting social harmony.He also stressed better enforcement of laws and Party discipline, along with relentless punishment of any violation.According to a statement released after the conference, the country's public spending on government officials' overseas visits, transportation and official receptions this year was reduced by 5.75 billion yuan (858 million U.S. dollars) from last year in a campaign to cut extravagant public spending.Anti-corruption departments have also launched a nationwide examination into the problem of "little coffers", which are private accounts for extracting public funds. More than 24,900 cases of "little coffers" involving public money totaling over 12.24 billion yuan had been found, and a total of 1,035 officials connected to these funds have been punished, according to the statement.Also on Saturday, a statement issued by the anti-corruption department of the Supreme People's Procuratorate said procuratorates around the country had, from 2009 to August 2010, dealt with 1,715 embezzlement and bribery cases and 263 cases of duty dereliction in the use of state-owned land resources.A total of 186 officials above county level were involved in the cases, the statement said.

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday signed a series of political and commercial deals on his second state visit to China, a sign of closer strategic ties between the two world powers.Medvedev held talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao Monday in Beijing. They celebrated the completion of a long-awaited China-Russia oil pipeline, the largest bilateral project between the two countries.The 999-km pipeline runs from Angarsk in Russia to Daqing in northeast China. It is part of a bilateral loan-for-oil deal that was reached in 2009. Under it, China makes a 25-billion-U.S.-dollar long-term loan to Russia while Russia supplies China with 300 million tonnes of oil through pipelines from 2011 until 2030."The smooth completion of the pipeline project is a model for the two countries' mutually beneficial win-win cooperation and a milestone for China-Russia energy cooperation," said Hu at the completion ceremony.The two countries also signed 15 deals on cooperation covering coal, gas supply, energy efficiency, renewable energy, nuclear power, power grids and banking.Medvedev arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian Sunday to start his state visit. There, he met with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), part of WWII, underscoring the "deep bonds" between the Russian and Chinese peoples.
