KEARNY MESA (CNS) - Four men were wanted for robbing a convenience store in Kearny Mesa Sunday, police said.A clerk at the Circle K on Balboa Avenue just east of Interstate 805 was working by herself around 8:45 a.m. Sunday when four men came into the store, looked around and left without making a purchase, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The four returned about eight minutes later, and one of them pointed a knife at the clerk's abdomen and demanded cigarettes, Heims said. The woman complied, and the men took multiple packs of cigarettes and cigars. JBS Tolleson, Inc. is recalling more than 5.1 million pounds of raw beef products that may be tainted with salmonella, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.The recalled beef was produced and packaged between July 26 and September 7 according to FSIS. The products have been distributed nationwide and include the brands Kroger, Cedar River Farms, Grass Run Farms and JBS generic among others.This is an expansion of a recall that was first issued in October for the same reason.The total amount of "non-intact raw beef products" that have been recalled now exceeds more than 12 million pounds.The recalled beef is linked to an outbreak of salmonella that, as of November 15, has caused 246 people to become sick in 25 states, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No deaths have been reported but 56 people have been hospitalized."FSIS is continuing to investigate illnesses associated with this widespread outbreak, and additional product from other companies may also be recalled," the recall notice said.Consumers should discard or return any recalled beef. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A construction worker killed on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla was remembered Friday by his colleagues. Sergio Cruz, 32, was among five workers injured Thursday morning near Mandler Hall at Muir Lane and Scholars Drive. A 35-foot wall of rebar fell on Cruz, Cal/OSHA said. He later died at the hospital. Cruz and the other injured workers are employees of Clark Construction. The company said Thursday it was conducting an investigation. The San Diego County Building & Construction Trades Council said Cruz had worked in construction for eight years. “He was a skilled tradesman who was well-respected by those working alongside him,” said council spokesperson Carol Kim.The crew was building a mixed-use dorm and classroom building at the time of the accident. 805
