ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is urging travelers from eight additional states to self-quarantine for 14 days as it awaits a decision on the reopening of indoor dining in New York City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a television interview that he plans to send state police and health and liquor officials to New York City on Tuesday night ahead of his decision expected Wednesday. Last week, Cuomo and counterparts in New Jersey and Connecticut announced a travel advisory requiring people from states with "increased prevalence of COVID-19" to quarantine for two weeks. That advisory applies to states with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents, or a test positivity rate higher than 10%.Tuesday, California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and Tennessee were added to New York’s travel advisory. Those states join Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. The Democratic governor said he’s worried by reports that dining in closed, indoor areas with air-conditioned systems could lead to spikes in COVID-19. Cuomo has warned that those out-of-state travelers could lead to a rise in infections. 1185

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) — Kevin Coleman feels a range of emotions when he steps foot onto the land in Alpine he used to call home. He and his wife Monica lost two houses on the property during the July 2018 West Fire. "Disappointing, heartache, anxiety, stress, how do you rebuild?" he says. The 22-acre parcel in Alpine has the remnants of the two houses, while a third home on the property is rented out. Meanwhile, the Colemans are living with other family. "We've exhausted the little bit of insurance money that we got to do the debris removal, the cleanup," Kevin says. "We had to take care of trees and all the damage on the property." About 60 homes burned in the West Fire, a number of them still not rebuilt. Looking for any solution, Monica began calling contractors she'd worked with in the past. She found her answer sitting in a San Diego storage yard near Oak Park. That's where the city had been storing a historic home since a 2014 legal settlement with The Academy of Our Lady of Peace. As part of the settlement, the city was forced to remove two historic homes from Normal Heights to make way for the school to expand. It had one remaining in the yard, and agreed to sell it to the Colemans for . Monica mailed the city a signed contract with a bill Thursday. The only catch: The family must keep the home's historic character. "I was very shocked, and bawled my eyes out when they said, we're going to sell you this house for a dollar," Monica said. The next steps, however, are costly. Kevin says a contractor quoted the family ,000 to move the home to their land in Alpine. It will also cost about ,000 in labor to make the home habitable. A City of San Diego spokesman says no other homes are available. 1744

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - A fundraising campaign has been started to help an Alpine fire victim who gave up his chance to save his RV to help others.Jesus Mendoza returned home from work late Saturday afternoon to a towering wall of black and orange. Minutes later, fire crews arrived to tell him he had to evacuate."The smoke was really black, looked like an explosion behind the hillside," said Mendoza. For the past few years, he's been living in his RV on a property on Hidden Glen Road. He's been helping his landlord and friend since her husband passed away last year"She let me stay there. Made myself a promise that she comes first," said Mendoza. When it came time to evacuate, Mendoza says he helped his friend find boxes to pack, before helping round up her dog, cat, and 18 chickens from around her house. He then went to the home of a neighbor, who also needed help."She wasn't home. Helped retrieve her valuables, two dogs, and her vehicle," said Mendoza. The 40 minutes he spent helping would cost him. The RV needed gas and a battery, but he ran out of time. He and his landlord evacuated as the flames moved in. The next day, a neighbor sent him a video. Though his friend's home was spared, his RV was burned, along with his belongings. He had only grabbed a few photos of his kids and some clothes from the hamper. Also destroyed: his truck and a 1968 Ford Falcon he was restoring for his son. Remarkably, Mendoza says he's doing fine."Not upset, because I'm here, and those are just things," said Mendoza.Mendoza, who is a tree trimmer, says he is worried about losing all of his tools and climbing equipment. His friends starting a GoFundMe campaign. As of Thursday afternoon, it had raised more than ,700. Mendoza says he's beyond grateful."My mom taught me to treat others with the most respect, and it will come back to me. So thankful," said Mendoza.Mendoza didn't have insurance on the RV since it was not being driven. 1950
