SYLMAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A freeway sign indicating drivers were using Interstate 5 South fell into traffic lanes Friday afternoon at the start of the holiday travel rush in Sylmar, north of Los Angeles.A driver reported to the California Highway Patrol that most of the sign fell into the middle lanes of I-5 at SR-14 at 1:15 p.m. Some parts of the sign were left dangling from the rigging.At least one driver hit some of the debris, according to the CHP’s online report. There were no reports of any injuries.Officers shut down south I-5 and diverted traffic into truck lanes, backing up the freeway into Santa Clarita.Caltrans crews removed the dangling sign and traffic on south I-5 was reopened about 3:30 p.m.The cause of the fall is under investigation. 766

Donald Hickey received a 25-years-to-life term as part of his plea deal in five felonies. In July, Hickey admitted to lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said the molestations occurred between 2009 and 2012. Hickey was caught thanks to a cyber tip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hickey apologized to his victims in court in August, saying “I’m sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' ``No teenager should be in a situation where they sit down and think about what they're going to say to a pedophile,'' one of the girls said after Hickey pleaded guilty. ``No parent should have to decide whether or not to tell their child that they have been assaulted. Tennis star Venus Williams has reached a settlement in the wrongful death suit centered around a fatal car accident, according to court documents.The accident, in which the other driver's Hyundai Accent crashed into Williams' Toyota Sequoia, resulted in the death of Jerome Barson two weeks later. His wife, Linda, was driving and was injured when the crash happened at an intersection in Palm Beach Gardens.Court filings from last week show that the case was dismissed with prejudice after a settlement was reached between Williams and Barson's estate, but the settlement amount was not listed.No charges were filed against the tennis star and a second driver over the crash in June 2017, Florida authorities said.An investigation supported by video surveillance showed Williams did not violate the other driver's right of way, the Palm Beach Gardens Police said in an investigative report obtained by CNN affiliate WPBF."Based upon this investigation and relevant Florida state statutes, no charges will be filed in this case," the report said. 1054

TEMPLE, TX — The body of a missing Fort Hood soldier is believed to have been found along railroad tracks in Temple, Texas.The Temple Police Department says around 5:36 p.m. on Tuesday, a call was received in reference to a medical call along railroad tracks.A caller advised that a man was observed near the railroad tracks. When officers arrived, it was determined the man had been dead for some period of time.Identification found at the scene indicates the victim may be missing Fort Hood soldier 23-year-old Elder Fernandes. However, no forensic confirmation has been made at this time.Sgt. Fernandes was last seen on Monday, August 17 and reported missing on Wednesday, August 19.Temple PD says at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication of foul play. The investigation is ongoing.Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield has ordered an autopsy, and next of kin has been notified."Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fernandes family during this challenging time," Temple Police Chief Shawn Reynolds said.Temple PD is the lead agency in the death investigation.
