CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three people were taken to the hospital and two others are in custody after a Border Patrol chase led to a crash in Campo Tuesday night. According to Border Patrol, agents tried to stop a 23-year-old San Diego resident driving a blue Mazda MPV around 5:05 p.m. near Old Highway 80 and McCain Valley Road for possible immigration-related violations. The driver refused to stop, sparking the chase. During the chase, agents say the woman drove onto Shasta Way at a “high rate of speed” before driving over a dip and losing control of the vehicle. According to border patrol, the 23-year-old had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Border Patrol says four men were found in the back of the vehicle. The men are between the ages of 24 and 39 and all claim to be residents of Mexico. Two of the men were taken to the hospital for treatment while the other two were taken into custody after refusing medical aid, Border Patrol says. 1139

CHANDLER, AZ — The Arizona Attorney General’s Office says Mikal Lee Smith, the son of ex-NFL coach and current head of the University of Illinois football program Lovie Smith, has been indicted after a Chandler police investigation accusing him of running a prostitution ring.According to a release, between December 2018 and September 2019, Mikal Smith and Aprel Mae Rasmussen operated and maintained an illegal prostitution enterprise.In one instance, Mikal Smith and Rasmussen allegedly induced and encouraged an adult female victim to “engage in acts of prostitution for over two months.”Mikal Smith reportedly used surveillance and threats of retaliation to keep the victim under his control.It’s unclear how many other victims, if any, were involved. (KGTV) - A brush fire on base at Camp Pendleton was visible above North San Diego County Monday afternoon.Camp Pendleton officials reported the vegetation fire was located on range 409, at the northeast end of the base.The smoke was reported in the Fallbrook area near the base, according to North County Fire. SDG&E's Alert fire camera showed a large plume from the Red Mountain viewpoint."There is no threat to our district at this time," North County Fire tweeted. Camp Pendleton officials confirmed there was no danger to structures.Base officials said on Twitter later Monday night that the forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
