AURORA, Colo. — The dog that was used by an Aurora, Colo. couple for sex acts was deemed not safe for adoption and was euthanized Tuesday.Jenee Shipman, manager at the Aurora Animal Shelter, wrote in a letter to the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office that the dog, which was a male Akita mix named Bubba, was not a safe candidate for adoption or transfer based on its history and behavior in the kennel.“The dog has exhibited unpredictable behavior, and shows signs of aggression towards veterinary services staff, volunteers, community service workers and staff members that the dog is not especially familiar with (staff who clean, feed, provide enrichment and treats daily),” the letter reads.Michael Bryant, the senior public information officer with the city of Aurora, confirmed that the dog had been humanely euthanized Tuesday after the couple’s sentencing.Court documents say that the animal's abuse occurred between July 1, 2016 and March 27, 2017. In March, Janette Solano, 49, and Frederick Manzanares, 51, were charged with animal cruelty and accused of having sex with their dog in a backyard motorhome.Solano, the ex-girlfriend of Manzanares, pleaded guilty to cruelty and animal neglect on July 30, according to court documents. Per her plea agreement, her three subsequent charges to cruelty and neglect of animals were dismissed by the district attorney. Manzanares, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty. According to court documents, he was sentenced on Tuesday to 180 days in jail and 24 months of probation. 1576

Attorneys for the suspect in a deadly shooting at a Kentucky grocery store entered not guilty pleas on his behalf during his arraignment Friday.Gregory Bush, a 51-year-old white man, is accused of fatally shooting two African-Americans in the Kroger grocery store in Jeffersontown, and in the parking lot. Authorities have said the shootings appear to be racially motivated.Bush has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two counts of wanton endangerment for the October 24 shooting."It's particularly in times of loss and tragedy that our Constitution and our laws can be particularly tested, so Mr. Bush, of course, has rights to due process and a fair trial that we all are honored to have," public defender Angie Ellerman told CNN affiliate WAVE. 795

As many public health experts have expressed concern over President Donald Trump's re-election rallies amid the coronavirus pandemic, a study conducted by Stanford University examined the number of illnesses stemming from the rallies.According to the study published last week, the rallies likely caused 30,000 other coronavirus-related infections, resulting in 700 deaths. The study's authors noted that these cases were not specifically from rally attendees, which means that attendees could have spread the virus to others. The study did not use contact tracing; instead, they relied on a statistical model that analyzes the virus's spread in communities Trump held rallies.Specifically, researchers examined 18 rallies Trump held from June 20 to Sept. 22, noting that coronavirus cases in the area near the rallies increased by more than 250 per 100,000 residents."Our analysis strongly supports the warnings and recommendations of public health officials concerning the risk of COVID-19 transmission at large group gatherings, particularly when the degree of compliance with guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing is low," the study's authors said. "The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death."Trump's rallies have generally included thousands of supporters standing shoulder to shoulder. While masks are often handed to supporters, most supporters at rallies opt not to wear them.Public health experts say that a combination of masks and keeping six feet of distance helps minimize the virus's spread, which has claimed more than 230,000 American lives since the spring.Public health experts have also encouraged people to hold gatherings outside, as most Trump rallies since he resumed campaigning in June have been held outdoors with a few exceptions.Trump has often mocked his opponent Joe Biden, who has held much smaller events to spread out the crowd. Biden has held several "drive-in" style events.Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose recent disagreements with Trump have boiled over on the campaign trail, said in an interview with CNN, he was troubled by Trump's rallies."We know that is asking for trouble when you do that," Fauci told. "We've seen that when you have situations of congregate settings where there are a lot of people without masks, the data speak for themselves."To read the full study, click here. 2403

As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And when it comes to appreciating art, that may be more true than ever. It's so subjective and comes down to true appreciation. One woman understands that more than most.To Myrna Hayutin the photos on her gallery wall are more than pictures of the past. She points out some of the art on display.  "This is a limited edition signed by Carl Mydans," Hayutin said. "This is Babe Ruth the last time he put on his uniform."These are works of art."It is history," Hayutin said. "It's just knowledge."And for the last 35 years she's been selling fine art like these pieces, despite the fact that she's legally blind."I anticipate doing this for at least another 10 years," Hayutin said. "As long as my eyesight holds."Hayutin started losing her eyesight when she was eight due to retinitis pigmentosa. And over the years, it's gotten progressively worse."It's like an island," Hayutin said. "As the disease progresses the island gets smaller and smaller now I see through two straws. So you may be standing right here but I am not seeing you. Or if were talking and you move I'll lose you."Still it hasn't affected her love for art or her determination to purse it as a career."It never occurred to me to stop me from doing anything that I really wanted to do," Hayutin said.Hayutin runs a successful international fine art gallery, Gallery M, and recently became an art appraiser."I'm looking at the artwork but honestly thank goodness with my devices I can really zoom in and see them much, much better," Hayutin said.Hayutin said her dog, Gouda, helps her navigate the changes in her eyesight, but what helps most is not focusing on what could happen."I would never have opened the gallery if I was fearful of what would be instead of what was at that time," Hayutin said. "I try to live in today and use the eyesight that I have today."Hayutin said every day is what you make it."There are some days where I'm not as positive as I should be, but I try it," Hauytin said. "I try to get back on that positive I mean because I'm surrounded by all of this gorgeous art and that's very uplifting."  2212
