OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — A vehicle slammed into a power pole in Oceanside and flipped over early Monday, leaving locals without power and forcing some evacuations.The driver careened into the power pole in the 220 block of N. El Camino Real at about 3:30 a.m. The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.The power pole remained upright but was leaning over a nearby mobile home park, threatening some homes. Those homes have been evacuated and power to most of the park has been shut off.SDG&E crews were out to assess the damage Monday. The outage affected at least 180 people. Crews expect to restore power by 4 p.m.It's not clear what caused the driver to lose control. The driver reportedly told Oceanside Police they were trying to avoid hitting a coyote. 785

(KGTV) - A nonprofit stopped in San Diego Thursday to thank veterans, 1,000 feet in the sky.The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation travels the country with their Boeing Stearman PT-17 biplane, an aircraft used for training during World War II.“In that plane, they’re 19, hot, and they’re rocking it!" said volunteer Lynn Sommars. "They come back and remember the person that’s been put away for some time.”Lynn's husband Mike also volunteers for the organization as a pilot.On Thursday Mike flew eight veterans who live at La Costa Glen, a senior living community in Carlsbad.One of the veterans they flew was Lloyd Anna, who logged nearly 5,000 flight miles during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.“Oh man, I was in heaven, close to it anyway!" OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Omaha Police Department (OPD) says a preliminary investigation into President Donald Trump's MAGA rally Tuesday at Eppley Airport shows seven people were transported to local hospitals for "a variety of medical conditions" and many more sought aid for other medical reasons.About 25,000 people were taken from the parking lots to the rally site via 40 buses over the course of the day. The buses started running at 10 a.m. CT. When the rally ended and President Donald Trump left, there was high demand for buses around 9 p.m. It was already 34 degrees outside at that time. Reports from the rally indicate thousands of attendees were stranded in the cold, waiting for buses to take them back to their cars. A Trump administration official told local media the buses were delayed by a traffic jam on access roads near the airport. OPD says buses for people with handicaps were made available and additional buses from the Metro Area Transit Authority were called in to give people a ride back to their vehicles. Some did choose to walk back to their cars, which was about 2.5 miles away. (KGTV) -- Five Oceanside lifeguards will receive the Medal of Valor for saving a man buried in rocks on the Del Mar Jetty last October.On October 7, 2017, the lifeguards received a call about someone stranded after his vessel capsized due to a wave.When lifeguards arrived, they found the watercraft upside down on the rocks but were unable to locate the man.After more lifeguards were called to the scene, they found the operator of the vessel buried in the rocks.Lifeguards worked quickly to free the man due to the impact of the relentless surf. More rescue units from the Oceanside Fire Department and Oceanside Police Department were called to the scene and eventually freed the man.The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. 812
