"I love my restaurant I love being a woman entrepreneur."Goodfriend has seen things change drastically during her decades in the business."When I started out in the restaurant business in 1971 there were virtually no women in the restaurant business that owned the restaurants," Goodfriend says. Immediately following reports of an incident in Las Vegas in May involving Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys, the NFL conducted a comprehensive investigation that included interviews with multiple witnesses, including security personnel and others with direct involvement, as well as a review of documentary and other information.On Tuesday, as part of the review, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met with Mr. Elliott to reinforce the standards of conduct expected of him and the consequences for failing to meet those standards.Mr. Elliott acknowledged that he demonstrated poor judgment and committed to make better choices in the future. (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials announced that the first wave of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccines would be distributed to UCSD Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital.While COVID-19 remains at the forefront of everyone's mind, officials also remind people not to forget about the dangers of influenza. They say both illnesses should be taken seriously to avoid overcrowding hospitals.Recently, the Imperial Beach Recreation Center has been a COVID-19 testing site. But Saturday, it transformed into the county's free flu clinic."Every year, we encourage people to get the flu vaccine," San Diego County Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Denise Foster said. "This year, it's even more important because of the pandemic."Dr. Foster says with the FDA's Emergency Authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, the county is preparing for a large-scale roll-out by early next week. The first place to get a portion of the 28,000-dose county allocation will be UCSD Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital."Just within a few days of that, we are going to get another allocation, which includes the county and some of the local hospitals directly," Dr. Foster said.But COVID is not their only focus. In the 2019 to 2020 flu season, more than 20,000 San Diegans got the flu. Of that, 108 people died.So far this year, the numbers are drastically lower due to social distancing and masking protocols. The county hopes to keep it that way. The idea is to keep people out of hospitals, whether it's for the flu or COVID.Christine Kelly brought her granddaughter to the clinic to get a flu shot."I've had a bad flu in the past to where I thought I was not going to make it," Kelly said.With the spread of COVID, she says she did not want to take any chances."We don't want to go anywhere near the hospital," Kelly said. "We want to save it for the people that need to be there."According to the county, 84% of ICU beds are already taken as of Dec. 11.Talks of COVID-19 vaccines are still in their infancy. But with Moderna and Astra Zeneca approvals also expected in the near future, the Imperial Beach Recreation Center could once again evolve, next time, into a COVID-19 vaccine site."It's very possible," Dr. Foster said. In an interview with the Washington Post, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said that the agency is proposing a ban on menthol cigarettes citing youth and minority smoking rates. According to the New York Times, a ban on menthol cigarettes could take several years to execute. It is a move that other nations have made. Canada has already implemented such a ban, and the European Union's menthol ban goes into effect in 2020. According to the FDA, menthol may reduce the irritation and harshness of smoking. According to FDA statistics, more than half of youth smokers smoke menthols. Also, a disproportionate number of minorities smoke menthols. Studies have also suggested that using menthol makes it more difficult to quit smoking, the FDA says. There have been groups, such as the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council, that have pushed the federal government to ban menthol cigarettes. The council's co-chair, Phillip Gardiner, told the Washington Post, "I’m sorry it has taken the FDA so long to come around but I’m glad they finally are. They should have done it 10 years ago and saved hundreds of thousands of lives."According to FDA figures, more than 19 million Americans smoke menthols.  1273

Hoverboards are once again the target for recalls, as the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued recalls Tuesday on seven models for potential fire hazard. According to the CPSC, the seven recalled hoverboard models have lithium-ion battery packs that can overheat, posing a risk of smoking, catching fire and/or exploding.Nearly 13,000 units are covered by Tuesday's recall.
