SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) — Apple is rolling out new Mac computers powered by the same kind of chips that run iPhones and iPads, a move aimed at making it easier for its most popular products to work together.Macs using the new chips will run the same apps designed for the iPhone's mobile operating system. However, it appears some developers aren't immediately keen on making those apps available for Macs.Apple said the three new Macintosh computers are powered by what they're calling its "most powerful chip" ever, the created in-house M1.The MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the Mac Mini, available for preorder now and in stores next week, start at 9, ,299, and 9, respectively. With the new chip, the MacBook Air, Apple's entry-level laptop, and the company's best-seller will have a "fanless" design that results in it being hushed. The battery life on the MacBook Air is the "longest battery life ever.""Studio-quality" microphones and improved video performance, will be available on the Macbook Pro, allowing you to have clearer video meetings, Apple said. The Mac mini, which hasn't been updated since 2018, will be three times faster on performance, Apple promises, will deliver a six-fold increase in graphics performance that will allow it to "tackle performance-intensive tasks like complex 3D rendering with ease."The mini will come in two editions, one for 9 with 256 GB of storage or 9 with 512 GB.Although analysts expect more cross-pollination, Apple didn't demonstrate any other interoperability features based on the new chips. The new Mac chips promise faster processing speeds, sleeker designs, and longer battery life. 1666

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — Dos Desperados brewing in San Marcos was headed for a banner year until the coronavirus outbreak hit."We had all of our vats full and of course we had to shut down," said owner Steve Munson. "It's not a killer yet, We're trying to survive until the end of the year."Sales plummeted in the tasting room and distribution. Munson had to cut his staff of eight to two, even letting his own daughter go. It got even more complicated in early July, when the governor eliminated indoor service for bars and restaurants. But when Munson approached the City of San Marcos to get an outdoor permit, he says it went lightning-quick, something Munson never expected.San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones says it happened fast because the city already had the framework in place to streamline outdoor permits, with no fees. The city actually approved it in late May. Jones credits Innovate 78, a collaborative effort between the five cities that line the 78: San Marcos, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido, and Vista. They've been working together on the economy for years."If you are not looking forward to what could happen next, you're not really planning," Jones said. "So we try to plan for the unknown, and I really believe that has come from COVID."Innovate 78 now plans to send a letter to Gov. Newsom seeking next steps for businesses now that San Diego County is off the state's watch list. 1411

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - Students at Cal State-San Marcos will spend time Tuesday and Thursday this week painting as a way to process their emotions in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. They're making a pair of murals, in conjunction with the Art Miles Project. One mural features 17 peace signs, each with the name of one of the victims of the shooting. The other features a dove with 17 rays of color coming out of it, also honoring the victims.Organizers say it's their way to let the victims know they have support from all over. It also helps the people who are painting sort through their own emotions and grief."I see the healing power that it has," says Joanne Tawfilis, the Director of the Art Miles Project, which organizes the murals. She's been doing murals like this for 20 years. Every time there is a major shooting or natural disaster, she organizes a way for people to paint."It makes me feel good," she says. "But it also makes me feel sad that we’re in a state in the world that this violence continues."Over the last 20 years, the Art Miles Project has been involved in painting 5,000 murals in over 100 countries. All of the materials are donated. In addition to the two murals that students will paint at Cal State-San Marcos, Tawfilis says the public is invited to the Muramid Museum and Art Center this weekend to paint more. 1391

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — In the latest move to change place names in light of U.S. racial history, leaders of Orange County’s Democratic Party are pushing to drop film legend John Wayne’s name, statue and other likenesses from the county’s airport because of his racist and bigoted comments. The Los Angeles Times reports that earlier this week, officials passed an emergency resolution condemning Wayne’s “racist and bigoted statements” made in a 1971 interview and are calling on the Orange County Board of Supervisors to drop his name, statue and other likenesses from the international airport. In the Playboy magazine interview, Wayne makes bigoted statements against Black people, Native Americans and the LGBTQ community. 734
