BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to work together with the United States to forge ahead bilateral relations of constructive cooperation along the right track and in a sustained, healthy and stable manner, President Hu Jintao said here on Sunday.During a meeting with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush in the central government compound of Zhongnanhai, Hu said the Chinese side has always viewed and handled its relations with the United States from a long-term and strategic perspective.     Hu said China is willing to work with the U.S. side to promote dialogue and exchanges, enhance understanding and mutual trust, respect and care for each other's interest and concerns, and settle sensitive issues properly to ensure bilateral relations go along the right track and in a sustained, healthy and stable manner.Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) shakes hands with U.S. President George W. We will keep contact with the U.S. side and inform you of the new developments," said the Chinese president.    Bush thanked China for how it has handled the situation of Todd Bachman and his family, and also thanked Hu for his expression of sympathy.    Todd and Barbara Bachman of Lakeville, Minneapolis, were attacked by a man with a knife while touring the 13th-century Drum Tower of Beijing on Saturday. Todd Bachman died from knife wounds while his wife suffered multiple stab wounds and was in critical but stable condition after an eight-hour surgery.    Police said that the assailant, 47-year-old Tang Yongming from Hangzhou of east China's Zhejiang Province, later killed himself by jumping off a 130-foot high balcony on the Drum Tower.    During the Sunday meeting, the two presidents also exchanged views on other issues, including the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the Iran nuclear issue.    They agreed that the two sides should maintain communication and coordination, and make joint efforts to facilitate the proper settlement of these issues.    Both leaders also made a positive evaluation of the progress achieved through the strategic and economic dialogue between the two countries, and agreed to work together to help the dialogue achieve more positive results.

FUZHOU, July 27 (Xinhua) -- A total of 274,300 people had been evacuated by Sunday afternoon in southeast China's Fujian Province as a strong typhoon was approaching, said the provincial flood control headquarters.     About 52,301 fishing boats had also returned to harbor as of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Disaster relief personnel had been helping people on fishing vessels get on shore, said Yang Zhiying, head of the flood control headquarters in Fujian.     Typhoon Fung Wong, the eighth tropical storm of this year, turned into a strong typhoon at 8:00 p.m. Its eye was monitored at the sea about 210 kilometers to the east of Taitung County in Taiwan, according to the provincial observatory.     It moved westward and was forecast to land Taiwan on Sunday night or Monday morning. MIANYANG, Sichuan, 23 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao continued his second trip around the quake disaster zone on Friday, visiting surviving students in Mianyang, one of the worst-hit cities in the May 12 quake.     In a tent school, where more than 500 students from the destroyed Beichuan Middle School were studying, Wen encouraged them to study harder following the calamity.     "Let us not forget the earthquake," he told the students in a tender voice. "Then you will know what life is all about -- it is bumpy, as the roads are."     "Today, people save us and take good care of us. In the future, we will help them in return," the premier added.     "Trials and tribulations serve only to revitalize the nation," he wrote on the blackboard to encourage them. BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- With the Beijing Paralympic Games under way, Chinese President Hu Jintao and other top leaders watched a musical and dancing performance staged by disabled artists in Beijing on Thursday night.     The grand show, titled "My Dream," was presented by the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT) in the Poly Theatre in downtown Beijing. Specially prepared for the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, the show has been continuously modified and Thursday's was already its fifth edition.     Sitting among the audience were Party and state leaders Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang, as well as International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Philip Craven and International Olympic Committee Honorary President Juan Antonio Samaranch.
