BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Reasserting its determination to crush gang crimes, China's Ministry of Public Security released a list of 52 major cases of gang crimes across the country and said it would supervise the handling of these cases in a circular issued on Tuesday.The ministry would appoint officers to supervise and track the investigation of these cases, while at the same time providing expertise and technological support, the circular said.It specifically ordered police chiefs, in areas where the mob cases occurred, to personally lead the investigation and said they would be held accountable for the investigation.Police nationwide must strengthen cooperation with disciplined inspection and supervision departments to remove the mafia's "protective umbrellas" and root out its financial resources by confiscating all asserts related to gang crimes.This was the eighth such listing released by the ministry since a long-term national campaign to crackdown on gang crimes began in February 2006.Since then, the ministry has supervised the handling of 296 major cases of gang crimes. GUANGZHOU, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Two nuclear power stations under construction have not been affected by a mild earthquake that struck south China's Guangdong Province Friday, company officials said.According to the provincial earthquake monitoring network, an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter Scale Friday hit the junction of Taishan City and Yangjiang City where the two nuclear power stations are located."The nuclear power stations being built were not at all affected as the facilities were designed to withstand at least 8-magnitude earthquakes," said a spokesman of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation (CGNPC).He said the sites of these two power stations were carefully chosen and approved by the China Earthquake Administration. Records show that the strongest earthquake that shook the sites did not exceed 6.0 in magnitude.The construction of the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station -- with a full installed capacity of 6 million kilowatts -- started in December 2008 and is planned to be put into commercial operation in 2013. The construction of the Taishan Nuclear Power Station -- with an initial installed capacity of 3.5 million kilowatts -- started in 2009 and is expected to be completed around 2014, the CGNPC said.

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), one of China's "big four" state-owned commercial banks, won the title for the world's largest initial public offering (IPO) after selling another 3.34 billion shares at its IPO price of 2.68 yuan per share.The ABC said in a statement at the Shanghai Stock Exchange Sunday that it raised an additional 8.94 billion yuan (1.31 billion U.S. dollars) after fully exercising the over-allotment option of its Shanghai share offering. The bank has now raised 22.1 billion U.S. dollars.The previous record was set by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which raised a record 21.9 billion U.S. dollars in its IPO in 2006.ABC shares rose 0.37 percent to 2.69 yuan on the Shanghai bourse Friday.The ABC is the last of the "big four" state-owned commercial lenders to go public. The other three banks -- the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Bank of China, are listed on both Shanghai and Hong Kong bourses.The over-allotment, or so-called greenshoe option, allows the sale of additional shares to the public if demand is high.
