EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. Gomez says her surveillance footage was deleted over, but she saw the video and believes both thefts may have involved transients."In the first theft, two men with shopping carts rolled into the parking lot, dismantled the canopies threw them into their carts, and rolled away," said Gomez.The restaurant does store most of its outdoor set up inside, but what was left out, was targeted. 1486

Dickson County, Tennessee boy, Joe Clyde Daniels, was beaten to death by his father before his body was disposed of, court documents have revealed. Over the weekend, Joseph Ray Daniels was arrested and charged with one count of criminal homicide in the 5-year-old’s disappearance.According to court documents, Daniels admitted to striking Joe Clyde "repeatedly... with [a] closed fist" until the boy died. He received injuries to his upper torso, head and face.  Daniels then allegedly placed his body in the trunk of his car and disposed of it in a rural area.Joe Clyde had been reported missing last week, prompting the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to issue an endangered child alert.  After several days of searching, the elder Daniels was charged.The boy’s body has not yet been found.Joe Clyde’s grandmother spoke with Scripps station WTVF in Nashville over the weekend, saying that she has been cooperating with law enforcement after her stepson was arrested in the case.“It’s shocking because you raise a child from way back, and you think you know him. (KGTV) - At age 73, Brian Duncan is following his own advice: if you think you can do it, you probably can.When Duncan got out of the Navy in 1967 he wanted to become a police officer. At the time, however, he says departments wanted big, tall men with 20/20 vision. He didn't fit the mold and moved on to a career in the court system.Twelve years ago, the itch came back, and Duncan joined the El Cajon Police Department's Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, also known as the RSVP program.Now he's taking his service even further, working to become a reserve police officer.If he lands a job, Duncan will be a sworn police officer able to make arrests and carry firearms. The only difference is he'll always have to work alongside a regular police officer.Duncan says his age is not a barrier and he's doing this to make a difference in the community."I've proven I can get through the academy, so I can do it. If I didn't think I could do it or would jeopardize someone's safety, I wouldn't do it," said Duncan.Reserve officers work voluntarily and are not paid.On Friday Duncan graduates from Grossmont College's 32nd Police Academy and already has an application out for a job.  1210

(KGTV) — A woman and her 16-year-old daughter were rescued from a remote part of Otay Mountain Friday.U.S. Border Patrol said the woman and teenager were found after being lost without food and water in a mountainous area of southeast Otay Lakes Reservoir at about 12 p.m. Border Search Trauma and Rescue and San Diego Sheriff's Department responded to the rescue effort. Border agents had to hike to the mother and teen's location and begin life-saving treatment.RELATED: Several migrants rescued from flooded storm drain in San YsidroAgents said the pair were losing consciousness and incoherent when they were found.A helicopter was used to take the two to an ambulance, which brought them to a nearby hospital for treatment.The incident marked the 21st and 22nd rescues by border agents performed in 24 hours, after 20 people were rescued from a storm drain near San Ysidro on Thanksgiving Day. 922
