DENVER – Colorado blazed trails when it legalized pot and now Denver could lead the way decriminalizing magic mushrooms.The group Denver for Psilocybin may soon have the all-clear to start gathering signatures so you can vote on it this fall.Gathering at the steps of the Denver City and County building on Wednesday, the group — chanting at times, "free the spores!" — met with city leaders about their push to decriminalize psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.Tyler Williams, one of the leaders of Denver for Psilocybin, spoke to Scripps station KMGH in Denver about their reasoning behind the push."There's a lot of research for all sorts of mental health issues. Everything from anxiety to depression to cluster headaches, addiction," said Williams.But he said he doesn't need the research to prove his claims. He credits their use saved his life a few years ago. "I had a suicide attempt November 12th of 2015 and I think it helped me get out of my depression, and it's helped me with my PTSD," Williams said.He's not alone. There are a growing number of people turning to psilocybin.Licensed professional counselor Kathy Hawkins treats a few number of people, not during their use, but only before and after."So, I’m a place where they can come and talk about it. (KGTV) - Cal Fire completed even more training this year, this time integrated with other agencies, sharpening their firefighting skills.Cal Fire sprang into action Wednesday, attacking the Vista Fire in Dehesa."I was shocked, so many helicopters, dropping off so many bodies, when you looked at the hill, gosh I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say there were 100 firefighters on that hill," neighbor Sherry German said.When the fire started, German's dog Joey let her know something was wrong. When she let him out, she heard the sirens coming, turned and saw the flames right next-door."I panicked when I saw the flames, I told my husband I'm out of here, I'm grabbing the dog, I'm grabbing my work and I'm out of here," German said.Some of the force fighting that fire took off from the Ramona Air Attack Base. On the tarmac perch two planes equipped to make retardant drops, a guide plane for the air buses, two tanks holding 50,000 gallons of retardant mixed with water, ready to go. They also have more than a dozen bags of red retardant powder, each weighing a ton.They used two and a half bags in the Vista Fire fight."This is the peak part of our season so we're definitely staffed up and ready to go, Cal Fire has a ton of resources," Public Information Officer Thomas Shoots said. DETROIT (AP) — Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 591,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix a brake fluid leak that could cause engine fires. The recalls cover more than 440,000 Kia Optima midsize sedans from 2013 through 2015 and Kia Sorento SUVs from 2014 and 2015. Also covered are 151,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs from 2013 to 2015. The affiliated automakers say brake fluid can leak inside a hydraulic control unit for the anti-lock brakes, possibly causing an electrical short that can lead to fires. Kia’s recall will start Oct. 15, while Hyundai’s will start Oct. 23. Dealers for both companies will inspect the control units for leaks and replace them if needed at no cost to owners. 709

DENVER — Convicted murderer Chris Watts has been moved from a Colorado prison to another prison out of state.Four sources confirm to KMGH's Jace Larson that Chris Watts was transferred from the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, where a new prison inmate goes after conviction, to an undisclosed facility out of state. Victims’ families -- who requested to be alerted -- have been notified, two of the four sources with knowledge of the movement told KMGH. Watts' current location has not been identified, except to victims' families, the source said.Watts pleaded guilty last month to killing his pregnant wife Shanann Watts and their two young daughters at their home in Frederick, Colorado in August. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.The Colorado Department of Corrections inmate locator shows Watts' location as the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, but this is no longer the case.The move occurred as part of an interstate compact where high-profile prisoners can be moved to another state’s system, or occasionally the federal prison system, for safety.
