SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council leaders on Tuesday approved the purchase and sale agreement that formalizes the sale of the Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University.Following the council's approval of the PSA, a required 30-day waiting period begins. After that, Mayor Kevin Faulconer will sign the agreement to complete the sale and begin the escrow period of the land.Transfer of ownership of the stadium site is expected to take place in early August. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Choir members in San Diego have made it their mission to use music to bring comfort to people nearing the end of their lives.Threshold Choir's director, Nadean Burington, started the local chapter in 2011.  It is an a cappella choir that sings for and with those at the thresholds of life.  They sing at the bedside at San Diego hospices, institutions, and private homes.Recently, doctors diagnosed Burington with stage four cancer. She has recently started requesting the choir's services.“It's wonderful. It's a gift back to me now for what I've given to help start it,” Burington said. “I feel well at this point but I want to the music continue for as long as possible.”Burington says the next directors have been picked out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Before the sun rose Friday, cars already packed parking lots at San Diego beaches to kick off Labor Day weekend and what's expected to the some of the hottest days of summer.However, San Diego County leaders said no matter where you are this weekend, they want to emphasize people must still follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.ABC 10News was at La Jolla Shores on Friday morning as beachgoers wearing masks secured spots far enough to stay socially distanced.Beachgoer and Santee resident Kris Moberly, “We know we can find a spot if we come early."It's the new norm, but also a way to ensure San Diego stays off the state's watchlist after just getting off of it two weeks ago.Moberly said she hopes everyone will follow the rules this weekend, telling ABC 10News, "I'm sure there's people who push the limits but you're responsible for your own health and I think most people are considerate of others."San Diego Lifeguards said they won't be regulating when it comes to social distancing or masks."We're going to be focused on keeping people safe in the water, but social distancing is everyone's responsibility,” a lifeguard told ABC 10News.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the status of our county depends on people's actions this weekend. In a press conference earlier this week, he said people should avoid indoor parties and continue to follow CDC guidelines.To ensure added safety, beaches like Carlsbad will also be handing out masks and teaching visitors about safety guidelines.Lifeguards said in addition to COVID-19 restrictions, the heat will also be a big safety factor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Crews Thursday rescued a woman they say broke her leg while hiking above Blacks Beach.According to authorities, the incident happened around 2 p.m. in the Box Canyon area. Lifeguards say a woman in her 20s fell while hiking in the area and broke her leg.A helicopter could be seen lifting the woman from the canyon and taking her to a nearby hospital.Her condition is unknown at this time. 417

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is warning drivers about a series of overnight closures along Interstate 5 over the next two weeks.From Sunday, November 4 through Thursday, November 8, northbound I-5 will be closed between La Jolla Village Drive and Genesee Avenue between 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.Northbound I-5 will also be closed from Tuesday, November 13 through Thursday, November 15 in the same area from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.CHECK TRAFFIC The agency is encouraging motorists to take an alternate route to avoid possible congestion.The section of the interstate will be closed so crews can remove the temporary wooden structures from the new Gilman Drive Bridge over I-5.
