SHANGHAI, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to promote gradual exchange rate reforms, even while the yuan is expected to stabilize at a reasonable level, said Yi Gang, head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) Monday in Shanghai.Yi, also deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), or the central bank, made the remarks at a seminar held by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss the theme "Macro-Prudential Policies -- an Asian Perspective"."The flexibility of the yuan has increased since China launched exchange rate reforms in June. We will further boost those reforms, but the process will be gradual," Yi said."Judging from the markets, the yuan can remain stable at a reasonable and balanced level," he said.China will also continue to expand domestic demand and boost construction in rural medical services, education and infrastructure, he said.Five years ago, China abandoned a decade-old peg to the U.S. dollar and allowed its currency to fluctuate against a basket of currencies and appreciate by 2.1 percent.Since then, the yuan has strengthened further, albeit slowly, and has risen more than 21 percent against the greenback.On June 19 this year, the Chinese central bank announced that it would further reform the yuan's exchange rate mechanism to improve its flexibility.

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Monday pledged to work with Cuba to lift the friendly bilateral relationship to a new level.Wang made the remarks while meeting with Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba.Cabrisas is in China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.Cuba was the first Latin American nation to forge diplomatic relations with China, in 1960.Wang spoke highly of the development of China-Cuba ties over the past half a century, noting that the two countries have always supported each other and enjoyed frequent high level visits.China will work with Cuba to expand win-win cooperation and strengthen economic and trade links with a view to further advancing bilateral ties, Wang said.Wang said China will continue to help Cuba within its capacity.Cabrisas thanked China for offering economic and technological assistance to his country.He said Cuba will make concerted efforts with China to promote pragmatic cooperation in various sectors while pushing forward the existing sound bilateral relationship.

NANJING, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) - Three months after high school, 18-year-old Wang Mingyuan landed a part-time job in KTK Group, one of China's leading railway components manufacturers, in east China's Jiangsu Province.Unlike other migrant workers, Wang also started a three-year vocational school education at the same time, thanks to the work-study program launched this year by the Jiangsu provincial government.The program offers employment opportunities in high-technology and community-service fields to vocational school students. Currently, Wang works three days of each week in the company and spends another two days as a student, learning computer science and engineering."I felt very depressed about the future when I knew I failed the college entrance exam.
