Court of Claims Judge Christopher Murray has issued a preliminary injunction that stops the ban on open carry guns at polls in Michigan. The ban directive was issued by the Michigan secretary of state to prevent voter intimidation. An attorney for the state argued before the judge this afternoon that the ban was issued because of open carry protests inside and outside of the state capitol over the governor's COVID-19 lockdown orders and the criminal case against 14 men in an alleged plan to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. She also told Judge Murray they have heard poll workers are afraid to work on election day.Gun rights advocates argued the secretary of state overstepped her authority as one elected official and this ban needs to be passed by the legislature. The Michigan attorney aeneral says she will take the case to the Court of Appeals in this statement:"We intend to immediately appeal the judge’s decision as this issue is of significant public interest and importance to our election process."This article was written by Jim Kiertzner for WXYZ. 1068

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Florida middle school teacher Dayanna Volitich submitted her resignation after it was found she was also the host of a white supremacist podcast called "Unapologetic" and the voice behind a Twitter account riddled with racist and anti-Semitic posts. The Citrus County School District removed Volitich from the classroom while it investigated her behavior after The Huffington Post broke the story in March. On Monday, Assistant Superintendent Mike Mullen said in an emailed statement that the district received Volitich's resignation, but it isn't final until it's accepted by the school board. Approval of the resignation will be on the agenda at the April 10 school board meeting, Mullen said. 724

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Rapper Kanye West used part of his first event since declaring himself a presidential candidate to rant against historical figure Harriet Tubman. West said the Underground Railroad conductor “never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people." West's comments drew shouts of opposition from some in the crowd gathered Sunday in North Charleston, South Carolina. His appearance was marked by a lengthy monologue touching on topics from abortion and religion to international trade and licensing deals. At one point he said he and wife Kim Kardashian had considered terminating their first pregnancy. Several sources report West became tearful during the speech Sunday, explaining how a message from God changed his mind and he got a call from Kardashian saying they were going to have the baby. North West was born in 2013. Whether West is actually seeking the nation’s highest office remains a question. Last week he met the requirements to appear on Oklahoma's presidential ballot. An Oklahoma elections spokeswoman says a West representative submitted paperwork and the ,000 filing fee Wednesday for the state's Nov. 3 ballot. A West adviser told New York Magazine that West was out, but TMZ reports his campaign filed with the Federal Election Commission. West has already missed the deadline to qualify for the ballot in several states. 1397

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield plans to kneel during the national anthem during the upcoming NFL season, according to a comment he made on Instagram.Mayfield posted a video of a training session on his Instagram Saturday afternoon. In the comments, an Instagram user asked him to tell Browns fans that he wasn't going to kneel this season, to which Mayfield replied, "Pull your head out. I absolutely am."His comment quickly gained traction among Browns fans and beat reporters. Later Mayfield explained his decision further in a statement on his Instagram story.Everybody so upset about my comment doesn't understand the reasoning behind kneeling in the first place....(ex-Green Beret and Seattle Seahawk) Nate (Boyer) and (former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick) came to an agreement that kneeling was the most respectful way to support our military while also standing up for equality.I have the utmost respect for our military, cops, and people that serve OUR country. It's about equality and everybody being treated the same because we are all human. It's been ignored for too long and that is my fault as well for not becoming more educated and staying silent. If I lose fans, that's okay. I've always spoken my mind. And that's from the heart.Mayfield was one of the 1,400 current and former professional athletes and coaches from across the National Football League (including many from the Cleveland Browns), the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball, who signed a letter from the Players Coalition to the United States Congress urging the passage of a bill to end qualified immunity as a way to combat police violence and racial injustices in the country.Mayfield's teammates, wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr., previously participated in a video alongside other NFL stars to call for the league to address issues including silencing players from peacefully protesting and failing to vocally condemn racism and systematic oppression.NFL commissioner Roger Goodell later responded to the video, echoing the words requested by the group and stating that the league was wrong for "not listening to NFL players earlier" when it came to protesting police brutality. This story was originally published by Camryn Justice on WEWS in Cleveland. 2316

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Republicans in the Ohio House of Representatives began a lame-duck session Thursday by passing a bill that would ban most abortions after the first detection of a fetal heartbeat. That milestone can arrive as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. The Republican-controlled House voted 58-35 Thursday in favor of the legislation, which does not include exceptions for rape or incest. The bill provides “a more consistent and reliable marker for the courts to use” when considering abortion laws’ constitutionality, said Rep. Christina Hagan, a Stark County Republican and the bill’s co-sponsor.The American Civil Liberties Union called the measure “a total abortion ban” and promised to sue if it becomes law. Kasich vetoed a similar bill in December 2016, siding with opponents who contend it is unconstitutional. The bill will advance to the Ohio Senate. 897
