TUCSON, Arizona — An Arizona high school principal admitted on Facebook he changed the grades of seniors at the school, but claims his supervisor directed him to take that action. The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board of Pueblo High School in Arizona have voted to release a district report on the incident that has been kept confidential.The board released the following report:         The governing board is set to vote Wednesday, March 28 on whether to release a portion of the report by the law firm hired by the district.Pueblo High School principal Auggie Romero has come under fire in recent years over a grade changing scandal.  He's been on the hot seat after a teacher came forward to E.W. Scripps television station KGUN in Tucson — that Romero changed several seniors grades without her consent — a violation of state law. And she provided proof — her grade sheets."This is something that has never happened before in my 31 years as a teacher," said Yolanda Sotelo in 2016. Romeo even admitted on Facebook he changed the grades, but claimed his supervisor, Abel Morado, directed him to take that action. KGUN obtained a scathing memo written by Morado, who stated that wasn't the case. He stated that he had reminded Romero he needed to get the teacher to change grades and Romero's "failure to comply with the very simple directive caused all of the controversy." The memo also reveals the Deconcini law firm investigated the allegations and found Romero "did change the student's grades." KGUN requested the document through a public records request, but the district declined citing attorney-client privilege. Now the board is voting on whether to release the findings "concerning potential violations of the law: improper grade-changing, improper promotion, and discrimination.  1961

Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be issuing new guidance on how schools can safely reopen in the fall.Pence's comments come hours after President Donald Trump tweeted that the current CDC guidance was "very tough & very expensive," adding that the agency was asking districts to do things that were "impractical."At the briefing, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield was asked if the agency was changing its guidelines because of the President's concerns.“We will continue to develop and evolve our guidance to meet the needs of schools and the states that we continue to provide that assistance to,” Redfield said.Watch the briefing in the video below.Pence also said that the administration hoped to add funding incentives for states that reopen their schools in the next round of stimulus legislation.Pence added that he felt children should return to school in the fall not only so they wouldn't fall behind academically, but because it would promote students' "mental health, well-being, physical health and nutrition. TUCSON, Ariz. - An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper intentionally collided with a wrong-way vehicle on Oct. 14.According to DPS, a trooper was assisting a stranded driver on the I-10 near Avra Valley. The trooper heard reports of a wrong-way vehicle traveling east within the westbound traffic lanes on I-10.The trooper found the wrong-way vehicle, approaching the car head-on near Cortaro Road. The trooper intentionally aligned the front left corner of his patrol vehicle with the front left corner of the wrong-way vehicle - forcing a collision that immediately stopped the wrong-way driver.DPS said the wrong-way driver was a disoriented, elderly woman. She was not properly restrained during the collision and sustained non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to Banner University Medical Center.The trooper was treated for minor injuries.“The ability of our trooper to assess the situation and take decisive action to stop the wrong-way vehicle, protected the lives of many motorists while endangering his own," said DPS Director, Colonel Frank Milstead. "I am proud of our brave trooper and pray he makes a full recovery and never has to face another wrong-way in his life.”  1216

United Airlines is putting together strong measures when it comes to safe air travel during COVID-19.On Wednesday, the company announced that customers must wear masks while at the airport or they could risk being "banned from flying." Customers would only be banned while the mask requirement is in place."The most important thing any of us can do to slow the spread of the coronavirus is to simply wear a mask when we're around other people," said United's Chief Executive Officer, Scott Kirby in a news release. "A mask is about protecting the safety of others, and I'm proud of the aggressive and proactive steps United Airlines has taken to ensure people are wearing a face-covering in the airports where we operate and onboard the aircraft we fly."Since May 4, the airlines have required travelers on their planes to wear masks.Now, they must also wear a mask while at United's customer service counters and kiosks, United Club locations, gates, and baggage claim areas, the company said.The mandate goes into effect on Friday. 1041
