A bronze statue of the late United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be unveiled in Brooklyn next year.According to a press release, the statue will permanently reside at the City Point development in downtown Brooklyn and unveiled on March 15, which would have been the late justice's 88th birthday."In her lifetime, Justice Ginsburg championed countless crucial causes. This statue is just a small reminder that we all need to set the highest possible standards for ourselves and society," Chris Conlon, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of Acadia Realty, said in the release. "From the people who work here, to the diverse shoppers and shopping at City Point, everyone feels welcome, equal, and respected. We are honored to have this great statue grace our property, and to bring Justice Ginsburg's 'path marking' spirit back to Brooklyn to inspire us for generations."Artist duo Gillie and Marc design the statue as part of their "Statues for Equality" series, which have already installed 10 sculptures of women around New York City. "The final statue, which she endorsed, reflects her wish to be depicted in a dignified manner." A Black man has filed a lawsuit against a gas station in Portland, Oregon claiming he was prohibited from buying gas because of the color of his skin, according to multiple media reports.Dominique DeWeese says he asked the attendant for a gallon of gas in a container back in July. According to the lawsuit, DeWeese says the attendant declined and allegedly implied he did not want to give DeWeese an opportunity to set fires.In Oregon, an attendant is required by law to pump gas, it is not self-service. “He asked if I was a Black Lives protester, rioter, kinda smirked and said ‘I’m not giving you any gas,’” DeWeese told KGW8 about the July incident.Portland has seen countless nights of demonstrations this year. They started in May, following the death of George Floyd at the hands of officers in Minneapolis.After the attendant declined to give DeWeese gas, he got out his cellphone and started recording. During the recording, the attendant tells DeWeese there are fires happening around Portland, “they get a can of gasoline and they start the fire,” the attendant says.“So, are you picking and choosing who to sell gasoline to?” DeWeese is heard asking on the video. A Dallas police officer died Wednesday morning, a day after he and a colleague were shot at a Home Depot, police said.Officer Rogelio Santander, a three-year police veteran, passed away at 8:11 a.m. of his injuries."We ask that you please continue to pray for Officer Santander's family and our department as we all try to cope with this tragic loss," police said on the department blog.Officer Crystal Almeida and loss prevention officer Scott Painter also were shot in the Tuesday incident.
