GUANGZHOU, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has praised Guangdong's pioneer role in the 30-year reform and opening drive and urged the south China province to continue promote cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SARs).     Guangdong played the role as a window, laboratory and pioneer in the construction and development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, said Xi during a study tour of the south China province on July 4 and 5.     Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visited towns, enterprises, communities, ports and research institutions, with Guangdong Party chief Wang Yang and governor Huang Huahua.     Xi hailed Guangdong's economic and social development, highlighting the fact that only socialism could save China, only the reforms and opening up to the outside world could develop China, socialism and Marxism. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping (L Front) talks with a worker at Weiming company in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, July 5, 2008He paid special attention to the issue of Guangdong's cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao.     With some Hong Kong-funded companies suffering from the decrease of overseas consumer demand and price hikes of oil and raw materials, Xi asked local officials to give assistance.     Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation and the development of the SARs' economies were of great significance for maintaining a long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, and the success of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, and eventually achieving national reunification, he said.     Xi urged Guangdong to open up to cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, by strictly following the "One Country, Two Systems" policy and the basic laws of the two SARs.     Xi called for implementation of instructions by President Hu Jintao on the development of the Party.     China must adopt the concept of scientific, coordinated and harmonious development, said Xi.

Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Edward Schafer also attended the meeting.    Wang said the meeting has secured mutually beneficial win-win results, and would go a long way to promote bilateral cooperation and create a good atmosphere for the next China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED), which will be held later this year.    Like SED, the JCTT is a major cooperation mechanism between the two countries to resolve problems and disputes regarding investment and trade issues through dialogue and discussion, according to Wang.    Echoing Wang's remarks, Gutierrez described Tuesday's meeting as "a very robust session with very robust outcomes."    He said the U.S.-China economic relationship has been the fastest growing one that his country has ever seen.    "The U.S. is today China's No.1 export market, and China the U.S.' No. 3 export market. The relation is growing so fast, so quickly, probably unique in history. And we manage this," said Gutierrez.    He mentioned that the two-way trade volume between the two countries had grown to 380 billion dollars last year from only 4 billion dollars when the JCCT mechanism was initially established in 1983.    During Tuesday's talks, the two sides reached consensus on a wide range of issues, including intellectual property protection, medical equipment acquisition and information security, officials said.    Ahead of this, five bilateral agreements were signed by senior officials from the two sides in areas like agricultural cooperation, food safety, trade statistics and rural information and communications technology development.    The Chinese side also announced to lift bird flu-related ban on poultry products from seven U.S. states including New York, and conditionally resume imports of American beef, while the U.S. side expressed its stance against trade protectionism and promised to push for the lifting of trade barriers against some Chinese products like see food, fruit and woodcraft.    Tuesday's meeting marked the 25th anniversary of the China-U.S. JCCT commission, a high-level government-to-government dialogue seeking to open market opportunities and resolve trade disputes between the two countries.    Wang was leading a big delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and other ministries for the event.

CHENGDU, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The current earthquake relief and rebuilding work have further displayed the nature and capabilities of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Sunday in a tour to quake-hit areas of Sichuan Province.     The mainstay role played by Party organizations at different levels, Party members and officials in the anti-quake campaign shows that the recent years' efforts to Party building have been "very fruitful," said Xi, also member of the Standing Committee ofthe CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.     During his 3-day inspection tour, Xi visited Youxian, Pingwu, Beichuan, Jiangyou, Dujiangyan and Wenchuan counties, which were worst hit by the May 12 earthquake. VIENTIANE, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here on Saturday evening, starting his working visit to Laos.     Wen is also scheduled to attend the 3rd Summit of the Great Mekong Subregion countries -- China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar -- to be convened in this Laos capital city on Monday.     According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wen, invited by Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, will meet with Lao President Choummaly Saygnasone and hold talks with his Lao counterpart Bouasone on future bilateral cooperation.     Wen and Bouasone are scheduled to attend the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement in the sectors of economy, technology, coal and e-governance. The great majority of these people live in rural areas where they lead subsistence or semi-subsistence agricultural lifestyles.     The area boasts abundant natural resources and huge development potential. With a long history of cultural and economic exchanges among the nations, the area has formed peculiar cultural and economic characteristics based on different folk customs and natural landscapes of the six nations sharing the river.     The first GMS Summit was held in Cambodia's Phnom Penh in 2002,and the second in southwest China's Kunming in 2005.
