MANATEE COUNTY, Florida — Manatee County leaders are changing an EMS policy after a heart attack victim’s body was left sitting in a public park for three hours, while his widow was forced to sit with his body.Ty Ross was walking his dogs at the Palma Sola Marina when he dropped to the ground and from a heart attack. Deputies and EMS quickly responded, and pronounced him dead just before 8:45 a.m.Per county policy, EMS left after life-saving attempts were no longer needed — leaving the body behind.A Manatee County deputy kept the public away while they waited for the funeral home to arrive. The sheriff's office was not able to transport the body anywhere since it wasn't involved in a crime. When officials were able to get ahold of Julie Ross, who had her cell phone turned off, she rushed to the scene. When she arrived about 90 minutes later, she was forced to wait next to her dead husband's body for another hour and a half until the funeral home was able to come pick up her husband's body."If the ambulance is there, they shouldn't just go off and leave him!" You know? They should do something," Ross said. "I'm just thinking there must have been something else that could've been done besides just leaving him there. That seems so cold."Family members expressed concerns over EMS leaving the deceased at the scene with only a sheet to cover him. Wondering why they did not transport his body to a funeral home or morgue."Sitting over there with an umbrella over him, worried about red ants, it seemed forever," Ross said. Manatee County Sheriff’s spokesperson Dave Bristow says the Sheriff along with the EMS Chief are changing the county’s policy after this incident. From now on, paramedics will put a body in the back of the ambulance until the funeral home arrives. Bristow says this new policy only applies when someone dies in a public place.Ross knows she can never get her husband back, but she’s relieved another family won’t go through this."I’m just glad to see that the county moved once they heard about it." 2071

If you're constantly sitting, make sure to stand often. Mexico is bracing for what's expected to be one of the strongest storms ever to hit its Pacific coast.Hurricane Willa is aimed at the coast's center, where it is forecast to hit Tuesday afternoon or evening. Tuesday morning, the storm was hurling maximum sustained winds of 130 mph and threatening to bring life-threatening storm surge and torrents of rain ashore,according to the National Hurricane Center.The storm weakened slightly to a Category 4 hurricane on Monday, with winds dropping further early Tuesday. Willa formed Saturday and went from tropical storm to Category 5 hurricane in just two days -- the pinnacle of what the hurricane center called "explosive" strengthening. Over the 24 hours from Sunday morning to Monday morning, Willa swelled by 80 mph.The whirlwind growth was only slightly marred by Monday's slowdown. "Willa is an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. While gradual weakening is forecast today (Tuesday), Willa is expected to be a dangerous major hurricane when it reaches the coast of Mexico," the National Hurricane Center said.Storm surge accompanied by "large and destructive waves" are forecast along portions of Mexico's central and southwestern coast. Rainfall ranging from 6 to 12 inches could spawn life-threatening landslides and flash flooding in portions of the Mexican states of Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa.Willa has been a danger for forecasters as well. An aircraft with the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters was forced to turn around Monday over concerns for its onboard equipment after getting blasted by a bolt of lightning from one of Willa's outer rain bands, according to the National Hurricane Center.In a tweet Monday, Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto said he has asked the National System of Civil Protection to take all steps necessary to protect those in Hurricane Willa's path, as well as those impacted by Tropical Storm Vicente, a weaker system tracking south of Willa that's also primed to make landfall Tuesday. Vicente is expected to be a tropical depression by the time it comes ashore, the National Hurricane Center said.Airlines have started moving out of Willa's path. Southwest has canceled all of its flights at the International Airport in Puerto Vallarta, a resort city in Mexico's Jalisco state. American Airlines has canceled its flights in the city of Mazatlan about 275 miles north of that.Willa is on track to be one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the Pacific coast of Mexico, and its landfall will come three years to the day after the strongest, Category 5 Hurricane Patricia, made landfall in Jalisco.The back-to-back systems of Willa and Vicente have helped make the 2018 hurricane season in the northeast Pacific one for the record books.The season is now the most active hurricane season on record using a measurement called "Accumulated Cyclone Energy," which combines the number of storms and their intensity through their lifetimes to give an overall measurement of tropical activity in a given region.There have been 10 major hurricanes in 2018, including Willa, which ties 1992 as the most major hurricanes seen in the northeast Pacific in one year.Increasing numbers of major hurricanes, along with a greater propensity of storms to undergo "rapid intensification" are expected consequences of?warmer ocean waters resulting from climate change. MARSHALL, Minn. — A couple in Minnesota wore red face masks emblazoned with swastikas to a Walmart in a video posted on social media.Police were called Saturday to the Walmart in Marshall, in the southwest part of the state, on a report that two shoppers were wearing the mask with the symbol used by the Nazi Party.The Star Tribune reports another shopper, who is a vicar of a southwest Minnesota parish, posted a video on Facebook of the man and woman being confronted by others in the store."If you vote for Biden you're gonna be in Nazi Germany. That's what it's going to be like," one of the masked shoppers said in the video, which was posted to Facebook.Marshall police gave the couple no-trespass notices but did not cite or arrest them.Walmart says the Arkansas-based retailer "will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment" in its business."What happened today at our store in Marshall, MN is unacceptable.
