SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- King tides are expected to continue in San Diego on Sunday following a day of flooding in parts of the county Saturday. High tide is set to happen at 9 a.m. with low tide set to take place around 4:10 p.m., according to tide charts. King tides occur when there is an alignment of the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon. RELATED: Sandbags available in San Diego CountySome parts of Imperial Beach already experienced tidal flooding Friday morning as several homeowners reported water entered their homes.The City of San Diego built a three-foot temporary berm along parts of the bay in Mission Beach to help mitigate the risk of coastal flooding. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It's a new twist on Black Friday shopping. Customers are flocking to buy ammunition before a new California gun law goes into effect. It’s called the “1 million round month.” Just a few hours after opening its doors, Poway Weapons and Gear Range sold half of their 1.2 million rounds of ammo. “Today is a direct reflection of the law,” says Danielle Rudolph, Director of Sales at Poway Weapons and Gear Range. “People are trying to stock up and save up now that way they don’t have to worry about it next year.” The new law starting in July says in addition to a gun permit, gun owners will have to pass another background check to buy ammunition. Retailers will then have to log the amount of ammo gun owners purchase in a database. The records will be sent to the Department of Justice. When asked about the store’s large sale, Ron Marcus with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said in part: “The bottom line is regardless of how people try to prepare themselves before the law goes into effect, majority of Californians voted on Prop. 63 that put these laws into effect."Store owners say they will order more ammunition for customers to purchase at a reduced price. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Local health care workers are seeing a massive number of at-risk patients through virtual visits amid concerns over COVID-19. “We've gone from having 100 visits a day [by phone or video] to 1,200 visits just yesterday alone, says Dr. Abi Olulade with San Diego's Sharp Rees-Stealy Group. She and hundreds of doctors with Sharp Healthcare are putting a special emphasis on telehealth appointments with patients who are considered at-risk because their immune systems can be weaker. RELATED: Coronavirus Impact: Concern over nurses' protective gear“[Patients] with lung disease, heart disease, diabetes and those that are immuno-compromised so we are focused on our higher risk patients,” she tells 10News.This week, 10News interviewed Dr. David Wetherhold at Scripps Health whose team is also trying to reach that same population through Scripps' telehealth program. It was supposed to roll out over the next 18 months, but with COVID-19, it's compressed into a few weeks. “The immuno-compromised, transplant patients, heart failure patients or cancer patients. [They’re] going to be our initial focus [with] trying to get them the care they need remotely without bringing them out into the community," Wetherhold said.RELATED: In-person EDD services temporarily closed“They are more at-risk of getting severe complications from coronavirus so we want to limit them coming into the office when we can,” adds Dr. Olulade. She wants to remind at-risk patients to stay in communication with their providers about any new symptoms, even if mild, that could warrant a need for further evaluation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Like most people who’ve worked decades towards retirement, Danielle Schulte has some ideas on how she’ll spend it."Initially I’m going to sleep in late, read the newspaper, yes, I still read paper!”Schulte is an Employee Relation Specialist for UC San Diego and hopes to retire in about six years.While she's been saving since graduating college, Schulte wishes she'd saved more, especially watching the market plunge in recent days.“Because I am getting close to retirement, I don’t have as much comfort in giving it time to even out,” said Schulte.She hired a financial advisor 13 years ago and continues to fine-tune her plan, currently looking into annuities."He has been really good in helping me not to panic, helping me invest my money in stable securities as best you can, given the market," said Schulte.Dennis Brewster is a financial advisor for SagePoint Financial. He too says it's not the time to panic.“Right now we’re down about 10 percent, that’s normal, it’s just that we haven’t had anything for so long, I think that's what makes it a little tougher, we haven’t had any declines," said Brewster. "We’ve been spoiled a little bit the last few years, on average [the decline] is usually 14 percent a year.”However, Brewster says those looking to retire soon need to pay attention and plan ahead with their 401(k)."The last thing you want to do is get too aggressive going into retirement, so somebody getting closer to retirement should be concerned, they don't want to get too extreme but do want to be a little more careful because you don't have 30 years to make it up."Schulte remains confident in the groundwork she’s laid on her retirement plan and is hopeful she can turn off the alarm clock for good in six years.  1772
