For generations, Dave Walton's family has owned a farm in Wilton, Iowa.“We bought this farm in 1901 so I’m fourth generation of this farm," Walton says. “We grow soybeans, corn, alfalfa; pasture beef, cattle, sheep."Walton knows the impact of the trade war firsthand. “Soybeans have been hit hardest, they were one of the first products to get tariffs," he says. That dropped our price almost a bushel.”The price change for many Iowans like Walton has left its mark.“We’ve really tightened the belt, we had to look at every expenditure. We haven’t really purchased any equipment, haven’t replaced any equipment. We’ve done the repair work ourselves," he says. "The family living budget is down to the bone so we’ve really had to tighten the belt to get through this.”He says waiting for a trade deal between the U.S. and China has been an emotional roller coaster. "You know, you hear they get together and get some positive news out of D.C., or whoever they’re negotiating, and you have a little bit of hope, and a week later it blows up with a tweet sometimes or the Chinese say ‘no, we’re not going to honor that deal,’ " he says.It's a waiting game he says can't go on forever. "The clock’s been ticking for a while,” Walton says. “We’ve made adjustments and the market starting to come back. If we can stay at this level, we could probably ride it out for a little while. GULF BREEZE, Fla. – A Florida man accidentally shot and killed his son-in-law who jumped out of bushes to surprise him on Tuesday.Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson says the “horrible accident” happened outside the home of the father-in-law, 61-year-old Richard Dennis.Before the deadly shooting, Johnson says another relative banged on the front door of the Gulf Breeze home at about 9:30 p.m., startling the father-in-law, who then ran the family member off. At about 11 p.m. that night, the son-in-law, 37-year-old Christopher Bergan, arrived to an area airport from Norway and went directly to Dennis’ house to surprise him for his birthday. “At 11:30, Mr. Dennis hears the same type of banging on the back door that he heard on the front door earlier, so he turns on the back-porch light, he steps out and Mr. Bergan jumps out of the shadows, scaring Mr. Dennis,” said Johnson. “Mr. Dennis gets off one round, striking Mr. Bergan, killing him instantly.”Johnson says an investigation revealed that the incident “was totally accidental” and that no charges are warranted in the case. “Anybody who is religious out there, you need to pray for this family because I can’t imagine what they’re going through. For the first time, astronomers have shown that telescopes could provide enough warning to allow people to move away from an asteroid strike on Earth.Astronomers at the University of Hawaii used the ATLAS and Pan-STARRS survey telescopes to detect a small asteroid before it entered Earth's atmosphere on the morning of June 22.The asteroid, named 2019 MO, was 13 feet in diameter and 310,685 miles from Earth. The ATLAS facility observed it four times over 30 minutes around midnight in Hawaii.Initially, the Scout impact analysis software at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory deemed the potential impact as a 2. For reference, 0 is "unlikely" and 4 is "likely." Davide Farnocchia, navigation engineer at JPL, requested additional observations because he noticed a detection near Puerto Rico 12 hours later.The Pan-STARRS telescope was also operating and captured part of the sky where the asteroid could be seen.The additional images from the Pan-STARRS telescope helped researchers better determine the entry path for the asteroid, which bumped the Scout rating to 4.The calculation matched up, and weather radar in San Juan detected the asteroid as it burned up in our atmosphere.
