As a graphic designer, Nicole Rim always had the dream of writing a book in the back of her mind, but the outbreak of COVID-19 suddenly gave her the perfect material she never knew she was looking for.On the way home from work in early March, this 40-year-old who lives in Lynn, Massachusetts, was listening to a story about the novel coronavirus. A health official was describing the COVID-19 molecule as having little crowns on it that unlocks cells in our bodies. When she got home that day, Rim started drawing and couldn’t stop.“I just wanted to produce something as fast as possible,” Rim said.Her idea was simple: create a children’s book that parents could read to their kids about coronavirus. Drawing from that interview she heard on the radio, Rim decided the book’s main character would be an evil dictator named King Covid. As the book explains, King Covid wears many crowns and sends out his army to attack people.The book is titled King Covid and the Kids Who Cared.Rim wanted her book to not only explain how COVID-19 works, she also wanted it to empower kids to fight back. In the book, kids can be seen using their ‘superpower’ of hand washing to defeat King Covid and his army. The book also explains how fighting back against King Covid’s army can help others the community who might get the virus.“I really wanted to empower kids, encourage kids to care for themselves and others as we wait out this pandemic. My hope is this book will teach them the importance of caring for others, putting others first,” she said.King Covid and the Kids Who Cared is one of the first of its kind tailored toward kids about the coronavirus. In hopes of relieving some of the pressure parents are feeling when it comes to talking to their children about COVID-19, Rim has made the entire book free and available for download. An autopsy report released Friday has revealed the cause of death of the 7-year-old Guatemalan girl who died after being taken into US Customs and Border Protection custody late last year.Jakelin Caal Maquin died from a bacterial infection known as streptococcal sepsis, according to the autopsy report from the medical examiner's office in El Paso County, Texas. The report says streptococcus bacteria was found in the girl's lungs, adrenal gland, liver and spleen. It goes on to say the infection was "rapidly progressive," which led to "multiple organ dysfunction and death."Jakelin died in December, two days after she and her father, Nery Gilberto Caal, 29, were detained by US Customs and Border Protection.The law offices of Lynn Coyle, who represents Jakelin's family, released a statement saying it will continue to ask for an independent investigation of her death."While the report sheds light on Jakelin's cause of death, it still leaves many questions that require further review," the statement said. "The report's findings suggest that Jakelin's chances of surviving would have been improved with earlier medical intervention. As we requested back in December of last year, the family seeks a thorough independent investigation of this matter to learn why medical intervention was delayed."The autopsy does not indicate how or when Jakelin caught the infection.CNN reached out to the CBP for comment, and was 1436

An unnamed, foreign government-owned company in a mystery court case is asking the Supreme Court to pause a grand jury subpoena it received related to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.The Supreme Court appeal comes after a federal appeals court ruling that ordered the company to comply with the subpoena, which required it to turn over "information" about its commercial activity in a criminal investigation. The appeals court also said the company could face fines for every day of noncompliance.The request to the Supreme Court is the latest twist in the secret case, which is under seal and has made its way through the federal court system with uncommon speed.This is the first known legal challenge apparently related to Mueller's investigation to make its way to the Supreme Court.It is not known when the court might decide if it will take action on the company's request to appeal further. The application is likely an effort to put the lower court action on hold before the Supreme Court is asked to step in to hear an appeal."So far as we know, the Court has never had a sealed argument before all nine Justices," said Steve Vladeck, a CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. "They can keep parts of the record and briefing sealed, and often do, such as in cases implicating trade secrets. But there's no procedure in the court's rules for having the whole case briefed, argued and decided under seal. The only times I'm aware of in which parties tried it, the court denied certiorari," or the review of the case.The company's challenge of the subpoena appears to have begun in September.In its ruling this past week, the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia offered few clues about the company and its country of origin or what Mueller's team sought.In one short passage in the three-page decision, the judges describe how they had learned confidentially from prosecutors that they had "reasonable probability" the records requested involved actions that took place outside of the United States but directly affected the US. Even the company was not informed of what prosecutors had on the issue, because revealing it to the company would have violated the secrecy of the grand jury investigation, the judges said.The range of possibilities on the identity of the company is vast. The company could be anything from a sovereign-owned bank to a state-backed technology or information company.
