Nearly 2 million Americans have received the coronavirus vaccine.According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's COVID data tracker, as of 9 a.m. Saturday, 9.5 million doses of vaccines have been distributed, and 1.9 million have been administered.The CDC says both totals include Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.CDC officials say the number of people who have received their first vaccine dose is likely higher, although the number of amounts distributed is higher than the number of those who've received a vaccine.The CDC says the lag in data being reported is because of several factors: health agencies having to transmit data to CDC, healthcare providers having to report to health agencies up to 72 hours after administering the vaccines, and the launch of the federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program is still pending.The CDC COVID data tracker also stated that as of 2 p.m. Sunday, 179,104 new coronavirus cases had been reported, bringing the new overall total to 18,909,910. More than one in three Americans have delayed a life event or financial milestone because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new survey.Bankrate surveyed about 2,500 Americans in late June. They found 36 percent of participants admitted they have delayed getting married, having a child, buying a home, retiring or another major financial life step.Of those who delayed buying a home, they expect the delay to last six months or longer. Of those delaying buying or leasing a car, 48 percent said their decision could be delayed 6 months or longer.This data matches other financial and job market indicators that the country is in a recession and a rebound could take time.In the survey: 11.6 percent said they are delaying finding a new job, 11.3 percent are delaying buying or leasing a new car, 8.6 percent are delaying buying a home, 7.1 percent are delaying furthering their education, 4.8 percent are delaying having children, 4.5 percent are delaying getting married and 4.5 percent are delaying retirement.As for how the respondents’ situation was since the pandemic started, 29 percent said their financial situation has worsened since the beginning of the year. 1184

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Pregnant women in the healthcare industry are wondering if they should get the COVID-19 vaccine since it's available to them following the emergency use authorization.At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Jennifer Thompson, an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said the risks associated with getting COVID-19 while pregnant are far worse than the risks associated with the vaccine. Thompson said, "They have increased risk of hospitalization, need for ICU, mechanical ventilation, and a slight increase risk in death compared to non-pregnant patients." She said her recommendation pertains to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for her patients who are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant. “So because of that increased risk, women who are pregnant are considered a higher risk group, and so therefore many of our organizations the CDC, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine recommend that the COVID-19 vaccine should not be withheld from pregnant individuals who meet criteria for vaccination based on their recommended priority group,” Thompson said.Dr. Thomspon practices what she preaches. "I actually received my vaccine on Friday, so I’m not concerned at this point about the long-term safety data," Thompson said. She noted that she’s had no side effects yet.While pregnant women were excluded from the trials, some women joined not knowing they were pregnant. Dr. Thompson said they’ve been following those cases closely. "These numbers are really small, but we have not seen significant adverse reactions both from a pregnancy standpoint or a fetal standpoint," Thompson said.Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation out there. There was an article circulating online which said the vaccine could cause infertility. Dr. Thompson said there’s no evidence to support that. "There’s some concern that the spike protein has a similar genetic makeup to one of the proteins in the placenta, however that similarity is less than 1%, and infertility has not been found from any of the scientific data," Thompson said. In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine is believed to be safe for women who are breast-feeding. Live vaccines are not recommended for pregnant women, but the COVID-19 vaccine is not live. “It’s an mRNA vaccine which is broken down by the body, and not incorporated into your DNA at all,” Thompson said, “Fetal risks are thought to be low due to the fact that the mRNA is broken down by your circulation and pre-clinical studies have been very reassuring.”If you have questions, talk to your doctor.
