PICO RIVERA, Calif. -- Firefighters responded after a large apartment complex burst into flames outside of Los Angeles Thursday afternoon.One person was taken to the hospital after the fire. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The fire erupted in Pico Rivera. Firefighters said portions of the roof have collapsed as a result of the fire.The entire apartment complex has been ordered to evacuate. PHOENIX— A man is accused of doing dozens of beer runs at Valley Circle K locations since late last year.Phoenix police report that on Aug. 15 they arrested 45-year-old Larry Pinkney for 60 thefts at two Circle K stores in south Phoenix. Police say from November 2017 until Aug. 15 of this year, Pinkney stole cases of Budweiser and Bud Light from Circle K. Nearly all of the thefts were from the store near 24th Street and Southern Avenue. Surveillance pictures and video allegedly show Pinkney taking the beer from the stores in each of the incidents. Police say during each incident he carried the beer in the same way and exited in the same direction. In many of the burglaries, he wore the same clothes. Upon his arrest, Pinkney reportedly told police that he sells the beer for a case. Circle K reports the total loss at over ,500.Pinkney has been charged with 60 counts of theft. 945

Perhaps making up for lost time after going five years since her last starring role, Drew Barrymore pulls double duty in "The Stand-In." The comedy is a "The Prince and the Pauper" knockoff that isn't worthy of a single Barrymore performance, let alone two.While Barrymore shows off some range in exploring the two characters, the script doesn't provide enough material for either of them to stand out.She plays both fallen comedy star Candy Black and her meek stand-in, Paula. Once a judge sentences Candy to rehab, she and Paula work out a switcheroo deal that spares Candy the inconvenience of alcoholism recovery while giving Paula a break from her dreary life.You can usually tell whether or not a comedy has a shot at working in the first 15 minutes, when there are no concerns for setting up the story and the characters are free to romp without a care of advancing the tale. "The Stand-In" gets stuck in the mud early on, focusing on its bizarre setup. Candy comes off as an intolerable diva, while Paula is a helpless pushover. Neither is all that appealing.At least it's got Barrymore going for it. Bursting with personality while showing off the vulnerability that she's had full command of ever since she was a tyke in "E.T." she retains the star charisma that shot her up the ranks of the Hollywood elite. Since roles in the vein of "The Wedding Singer" and "Never Been Kissed" are no longer coming along, it's refreshing to see her reinvent herself as a Melissa McCarthy-style comedic force of nature.Director Jamie Babbit manages to squeeze a few laughs out of her capable ensemble cast, which includes Ellie Kemper and T.J. Miller, but the lazy story takes way too long to push forward, and any potential emotional impact falls by the wayside as the dull plot plods its way to its conclusion.The central message in most movies like this is that the grass isn't greener on the other side. Passengers with peanut and tree-nut allergies will soon have the option to board American Airlines flights early to wipe down seating areas of potential allergens.The new policy goes into effect December 12 as flight-service manuals are updated."American Airlines customers with nut allergies who would like to board our flights early to wipe down surfaces may ask to do so at the gate," said American Airlines spokeswoman Michelle Mohr. The policy was first reported by Bloomberg.Passengers are free to wipe down their seating areas of potential allergens at any time, but the new policy gives extra consideration to concerned allergy sufferers."I certainly understand the deep, deep concern people have, especially parents with young children," Mohr said. Mohr herself suffers from a severe nut allergy and carries an EpiPen.The airline encourages passengers to take all necessary medical precautions before flying, she said.American Airlines hasn't served peanuts in years, but it does serve a combination of warm mixed nuts to First and Business class passengers on trans-oceanic flights, Mohr said. That mixture does not contain peanuts.But the airline cannot guarantee that customers won't be exposed to peanuts or tree nuts on any flight as passengers may bring their own snacks aboard or transfer nut residue from other places.The new policy was included in a filing with the U.S. Transportation Department on November 6. It comes in response to a complaint filed last year by Food Allergy Research & Education and the mother of a child with a dangerous peanut allergy, Bloomberg reported.Mohr dismissed any notion that passengers who do not suffer from allergies might take advantage of the policy."We do not expect rampant abuse of this policy. We do not believe our customers will fake a potentially life-threatening allergy just to board the plane a little bit faster," she said.Southwest Airlines stopped serving peanuts on all flights this summer.When notified of a passenger allergy, Delta Air Lines will not serve peanuts or related products on specific flights.
