SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man with Down syndrome met the man who saved his life by donating a kidney for the first time Wednesday. James Wellman met his donor, Paul Williams, for the first time after having his life-saving surgery.Wellman was diagnosed with Down syndrome when he was born, and in 2017 his kidneys were functioning at only 12 percent.His family grew concerned after he was rejected for a transplant by several programs in Southern California. 477

According to the San Diego Gas and Electric outage map, 1774 people in Old Town, Mission Hills and Hillcrest were affected by the outage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A teenager was struck by a San Diego trolley near Petco Park less than an hour after the end of the Padres opening day game.The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. at 600 Park Blvd., near Market St. The location is several blocks from the ballpark and was busy due to fans leaving the game.The 19-year-old man who was hit was conscious and breathing, officials said. There was no word on the nature of any injuries or the impact on trolley service.Emergency officials did not indicate whether the teenager had attended the Padres game. 565

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — About 160 military police and engineers will be sent to border crossings in San Diego and El Paso this weekend, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.The government will send 80 active-duty troops to San Diego and another 80 to El Paso, according to CBP and the Department of Defense (DoD). Troops are expected to arrive at the two locations Saturday.CBP confirmed to 10News the Department of Defense will provide a "crisis response force" (CRF) for the San Ysidro Port of Entry (POE) in case a federal appeals court nixes a Trump Administration policy known as "Remain in Mexico," and due to coronavirus containment concerns.RELATED: Trump: US could close borders to guard against coronavirus"Based on the pending MPP [Migrant Protection Protocols] decision, continued concern of large groups attempting to forcibly enter through the San Ysidro POE, and COVID-19 containment and mitigation concerns, CBP has activated the CRF," a CBP spokesperson said.Though the spokesperson later downplayed that the troop surge was in direct response to coronavirus cases."...The DoD is not doing anything in direct terms of COVID-19.
