(WFTX)  -- A Florida woman got creative with spare spray paint and plywood and made a sign to get the power company's attention.“I thought that all of my neighbors would get a huge kick out of it,” said Kynse Agles.She posed for a photo next to her pink sign that reads, “Hot single female seeks sexy lineman to electrify her life.”Just days before she posted the sign outside her Fort Myers home, Agles went under the knife for a kidney transplant. “My hurricane story started with a double organ transplant at Tampa General Hospital,” she said.Agles had to stay in air conditioning in order to avoid complications from her procedure. “I found a place to stay that had electricity and have been jumping from bed to couch,” she said.Then a light bulb went off in her head.“I saw a post on Facebook and I thought it was really funny and I can do it better,” she said. “I just thought maybe if a lineman got to my neighborhood they’ll laugh and hook me up first,” she added.Her sign did catch the attention of linemen. After they restored her power, they took a picture behind the sign and left a note.“Big shout-out for everyone who is working to get the power restored, because it’s so hot out there,” she said.She’s just happy not have to ride any more couches.“I haven’t slept in my bed in 20 nights, so I’m really excited to sleep tonight,” she said.Agles might even loan it to some of her other neighbors who are still without power. “My neighbor across the street doesn't have power yet, I told him he can borrow my sign later.” 1578

For those wondering if “Jeopardy!” would go on after Alex Trebek’s death, Jeopardy producers confirmed on Monday that the show must go on.Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards released a statement on Monday saying the show would resume production on November 30. The show will resume with Ken Jennings, a former contestant who was deemed the “Greatest of All Time” in January, as the first to guest host following Trebek’s death. Other guest hosts will be announced in the future.Jennings joined the program at the start of the current season as a consulting producer. Before winning the “Greatest of All Time” series in January, Jennings set a still-standing record of 74 wins in a row in 2004.“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” said Richards. “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues. By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”Originally, Jeopardy! said it would have new episodes taped before Trebek's death through December 25. On Monday, the game show said that during the weeks of Dec. 21 and 28, Jeopardy! will air a top 10 of Trebek's past episodes. The final episode filmed before Trebek's death will air January 8. For millions of college students, this election will be their first time being able to vote for the President of the United States. While some students have been waiting for this opportunity for years, historically, many others may not even end up casting a ballot. Two groups who are responsible for mobilizing first-time voters on college campuses are the College Democrats and College Republicans. Both are national organizations with chapters on most university campuses. COVID-19 CHALLENGESIn a normal election year, Democrat and Republican clubs on campuses like Arizona State University would host almost daily events in the run-up to the election. Pizza parties, free food and guest speakers all serve the purpose of getting first-time voters registered and excited to participate in the election. But on many campuses this year, in-person events are banned, or at the very least, restricted. "This semester is obviously presenting a challenge," said Clay Robinson, vice president of the College Republicans at ASU.Robinson said one major impact has been the inability to set up tables near busy parts of campus to attract new members. As a result, membership has been slightly off. "Usually we’d be having in-person events, we’d be offering free food," Robinson said. The College Democrats have also seen an impact, potentially problematic for Democrats in Arizona since college students tend to vote more progressive. "I don't come on campus at all," said Cameron Adams, president of the ASU Young Democrats.Adams says in addition to missing in-person events, she misses knocking on doors for candidates. "We are known as the powerhouse of knocking on doors, so it's really different to not be doing that, Adams said. "I miss it so much."HOW THEY'VE BEEN MOBILIZING Both Robinson and Adams say they've been holding virtual meet-ups on Zoom, and the response has actually been better than expected. "I've actually been surprised how many people we’ve been able to keep coming to meetings," Robinson said. Adams says speakers have also been willing to participate remotely, which gives the group reasons to come together. "We’ve been having debate watch parties," Adams added. For an outgoing, two-term Republican governor who only two years ago won the Ohio presidential primary, a final state GOP fundraiser should be almost a victory lap, a chance to reflect on the last eight years.But when the GOP faithful gather in Columbus on Friday, Gov. John Kasich won't be there.That is due in large part to the fact that the guest of honor will be the man who has emerged as Kasich's main political rival, President Donald Trump.Kasich was one of the few Republicans not to endorse Trump in 2016 general election and has remained one of his staunchest policy critics since Trump took office. Beyond that, control of the state party has shifted away from Kasich since Trump's victory with the replacement of party chair, Kasich ally Matt Borges, with Trump supporter Jane Timken.Just last week, Trump's Ohio Campaign Manager and now Co-chair of the RNC Bob Paduchik wrote a blistering op-ed critical of Kasich's attacks on Trump."President Trump is now coming into John Kasich's territory and ruining his farewell party," Political Analyst Dr. Tom Sutton of Baldwin Wallace University said,The Trump Ohio swing Sutton said is also evident on the party's fall ticket, noting that Trump ally Rep. Jim Renacci taking the place as the GOP Senate candidate over the more moderate Josh Mandel."We're seeing here very much the same kind of dynamic that we are seeing across the country," Sutton said.Both Kasich and Trump endorsed Troy Balderson in the special election this month to fill the open seat in Congress in Kasich's home 12th District. Balderson eked out a narrow victory over Democrat Danny O'Connor in the heavily Republican district. The two will face off though again in November with that race being called by many a toss-up.In a back and forth on Twitter last week the president saying "the very upopular Governor of Ohio... hurt Troy Balderson's recent win by tamping down enthusiasm." We saw that with Mark Sanford who lost his renomination to be the congressperson from South Carolina, there are some other issues involved in that but he was critical of President Trump. Those that criticize the president have become the outcasts of the party," Sutton said. "And the most prominent voices are either leaving office or when they're running they're facing stiff challenges from other primary opponents who wrap themselves around President Trump's policies and that is the lay of the land right now in the Republican Party." 2972

Firefighters in western Colorado hope a winter storm could spell relief from a rash of wildfires that have spread throughout the state this week. But between now and Saturday evening, firefighters will face more warm temperatures and gusty weather, which could fuel the spread of the six major wildfires.Between Wednesday evening and Thursday evening, the East Troublesome Fire exploded in size from 20,000 acres to 170,000 acres — the second-largest in state history.A cold front slowed the spread of that fire on Thursday evening, but hundreds of evacuations remain in place in Grand and Larimer Counties. Rocky Mountain National Park also remains closed due to its proximity to the fire.As of 10:30 a.m. ET, the fire was burning 170,163 acres and was only 5% contained. It's just the latest in a historic wildfire season in the state that has seen the state's four largest wildfires of all time.The East Troublesome Fire is confirmed to have caused "minor" injuries to one firefighter thus far.After a slight warmup early Saturday, another cold front will dip into Colorado that evening and into Sunday morning, bringing a projected five inches of snow to much of the Denver metro area and higher amounts to the west and northwest.While heavy snowfall in the north-central mountains isn't guaranteed to put an end to the East Troublesome, Cameron Peak, Calwood, Lefthand Canyon, Middle and Williams Fork fires, the precipitation will surely give firefighters a spell of relief and allow crews to fight the fires more directly.Before Saturday's cold front, though, crews face more warm, dry weather in the mountains and gusty conditions ahead of the front.
