Thomas Markle was to walk his soon-to-be royal daughter Meghan down the aisle at St. George's Chapel in Windsor this Saturday. But new reports suggest he isn't going.TMZ reports Thomas Markle says he is going to stay in Mexico, where he lives, while his daughter marries Prince Harry. He wants to avoid embarrassing the Royal Family, he told TMZ.The remarks stem from the fallout over photos Thomas Markle had taken by a photo agency, for which he was allegedly paid 5,000. The photos are staged and are of him getting ready to attend the wedding. He told TMZ he felt they would help him appear in a more positive light.Thomas Markle said other photos of him taken by paparazzi have typically shown him in ways he feels are unbecoming, such as purchasing beer or looking reclusive, TMZ reports.Thomas and Meghan Markle have had a rocky father-daughter relationship, and she is estranged from half-sister Samantha Grant,?who claims the photos of her dad were her idea. Meghan Markle also has a half brother, Thomas Markle Jr., who has been speaking to media, but the family says he is speaking on his own and not representing words the family would say. There has been no comment from Meghan Markle or Kensington Palace. 1278

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Thursday that it is looking for ways to transition some people off of the department's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).Specifically, the USDA is looking at beneficiaries who are not disabled and who don't have any dependents.“Long-term dependency has never been part of the American dream,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. “USDA’s goal is to move individuals and families from SNAP back to the workforce as the best long-term solution to poverty. Everyone who receives SNAP deserves an opportunity to become self-sufficient and build a productive, independent life.”Related:?Trump administration proposes Blue Apron-style overhaul for food stamps 773

There’s a new trend in engagement rings.Instead of a diamond ring around your finger, a diamond is embedded in your finger.“We notice lately a lot of people coming looking for that,” Sam Abbas, who owns NYC Ink Studio in the West Village, told Hsu.Apparently, some millennials are ditching the usual engagement ring and instead piercing their ring fingers.“I think it looks nice, but if you really think what it’s doing to the body – and you can have scarring – it’s so many complications that can happen from it,” Cynthia Rivas said.Abbas said there could be problems if the person doesn’t take care of the piercing, such as cleaning it two to three times a day and making sure the piercing artist has experience.“You’re dealing with the blood, so you got to be very, very safe,” he said. “What we do, we sterilize everything.”A piercing artist marks the spot with a pen, cleans with alcohol and iodine, uses a tool to remove a small patch of skin, and then inserts an anchor made of titanium or gold, which holds the gem, Hsu reported. The whole process takes about 10 minutes and costs around 0 for the piercing. The diamond you choose is a separate cost.As for the pain?“You’re going to feel it. You’re getting pierced. It is a little bit painful. But people did it, and I have a lot of people who say, ‘Oh nice, it’s nothing, I expect more,” said Abbas.Dermatologist Dr. Monica Halem told Hsu she has some concerns.“First of all, these procedures are not being done by a doctor, and it is a surgical procedure,” she said. “There are a lot of important structures that sit right under the skin there that can easily be damaged, like tendons.”There’s also the danger of the diamond snagging.“That’s sitting right above the skin, that’s easily caught on something and can do a lot of damage,” said Halem. She said you should think carefully before going for the new trend.Healing from this kind of piercing can take up to 20 weeks. If you want the diamond removed, that’s possible but more painful than the initial piercing. 2035

There's still no telling when we'll return to the old normal here in the United States, but that's not stopping people from dating and trying to meet new people online. With the pandemic top of mind, most online daters are doing their part to stay safe.“Video is very strong at assessing appearance, personality. There's no reason to meet up with someone when a simple two or three video chat can disqualify them,” said Geoff Cook, CEO of The Meet Group. The Meet Group, which owns several social networking apps, expects people to continue to video chat before going on a date in person even after the pandemic. But the company has also noticed a need to help online daters make healthy decisions. So, it created the Safer Dating Advisory Board. The Meet Group recruited epidemiologists and infectious disease doctors to come up with tips for safer dating. The first thing the health experts suggest is that daters be honest with one another.“Talk about comfort level, with in-person interactions, with potential dates,” said Dr. Tali Elfassy with the Safer Dating Advisory Board. “Talk about your normal activities in your day to day life. So, let your potential partners know if you work from home, whether you live in a multi-generational household.”Both people should assess their own risk and whether they feel comfortable with in-person dating.People should listen to local orders, especially if they live in an area with a high number of cases. The advisory board says people in these areas should stay home.If daters do choose to go out, they should meet outdoors, wear a mask, and if they are meeting a lot of people, they should get tested and try to reduce the number of people they're meeting. 1711

This week countless photographs have offered close-up depictions of the destruction caused by California wildfires. Now, with the help of its satellites, NASA has released pictures giving a different perspective.NASA's Landsat 8 satellite captured this first image of the Camp Fire on the morning of November 8, just a few hours after the blaze had broken out. That fire grew quickly, torching 20,000 acres in less than 14 hours. At one point, it grew by a average of more than one football field every three seconds. The fire in the picture is highlighted, and beneath that smoke the flames are encroaching on the northern California community of Paradise, where it's estimated that up to 90% of homes have been destroyed. The second image, captured by NASA's Terra satellite, gives a better sense of the scope of the Camp Fire in relation to the state. Smoke from the blaze obscures a wide swath of the northwestern part of the state, stretching south from Paradise to just north of San Francisco. 1005
