SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Carlos woman says a buzzing sound caught her off guard at home. When she looked around, she spotted a drone hovering near her bedroom window, peering in.  Yvette Skalka was hanging her laundry in the backyard on September 6 when she heard the noise. She says she looked up and a small, white drone. “It hovered for a good 3 to 5 minutes.  It gave me an uneasy feeling. It didn’t feel right,” said Skalka.The drone flew up to the top of a palm on the property for a few minutes, before flying back down.“It was near three dogs and driving them crazy, like it was tormenting them,” said Skalka.Eventually, the drone flew off.  Skalka filed a police report and posted details on the Nextdoor app.  Another neighbor responded that she believed the same drone has recently hovered near her ground-floor bedroom, watching her college-age daughter.  That family also filed a police report. 956

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A preliminary hearing was held Monday for a parolee accused of sexually assaulting an 88-year-old woman at a Hillcrest nursing home. Police say 49-year-old Lusean Arline was arrested November 4th in connection with the alleged October 27th sexual assault at the Balboa Nursing & Rehab Center on Fourth Ave.Prosecutors say Arline entered the nursing home, possibly through an unlocked door, around 3 that morning and was found completely nude on top of the victim in her bed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A person fell at least 14 feet down an elevator shaft at a downtown property Tuesday.The person was reportedly working at the property at 625 Broadway when the fall occurred.San Diego Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team responded, hoisting the worker out and transporting the person to a nearby hospital.The worker had injuries to their leg but they were conscious and believed to be okay.No further information was immediately available. 476

The movie highlights the bi-cultural relationship between San Diego and Mexico. Ruta Madre first premiered in 2017 and has since made its way around the film festival circuit winning various awards. Now, the movie is getting some major attention and even making its way to theatres around San Diego. Although Ruta Madre has had a successful turn around the film festival circuit, the theatrical release comes at a critical time in the political relationship between the U.S. and Mexico. It also confronts the issue many Latinos in America face: self- and social-identity."It reflects the feeling of many Latinos, especially Mexicans, who have emigrated or were born here, but who have not they feel neither from here nor from there,” director and screenwriter Agustín Casta?eda said in a 2016 interview.The film, called Ruta Madre, follows Daniel, a young American singer who leaves his home in Chula Vista to embark on a spiritual road trip after his first love Daisy breaks his heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy sailor appeared in court Tuesday after authorities say he stole 20 hand grenades from a San Diego-based guided missile destroyer.Authorities say Gunner’s Mate Second Class Aaron Booker was taken into custody in Illinois.According to court documents, personnel assigned to the USS Pinckney discovered that 20 grenades disappeared from their storage crates in 2017.In April 2017, an off-duty law enforcement officer noticed a black backpack leaning against a guardrail on the side of the road along Interstate 15 in northwest Arizona.The bag was standard military issue with “GM2 BOOKER” handwritten on a tag inside the bag. The bag contained 18 of the grenades that were missing from the USS Pinckney.According to authorities, law enforcement is still searching for the two missing grenades.The complaint states that Booker acknowledged to investigators that he drove the same route before reporting to his duty station in March.“A backpack full of grenades on the side of the road is obviously extremely dangerous and could have had resulted in injuries or death,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman said. “The theft of explosives is a very serious offense, particularly if it is carried out by an insider with access to military weapons and secrets.”Booker will appear for a detention hearing before being transferred to San Diego. The maximum penalty for the crime is 10 years in prison and a 0,000 fine.  1462
