SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A stylist in Bankers Hill says a "style-and-dash" customer stiffed him on a hefty bill for hair extensions.Stylist Wesley Horn says the young woman, a repeat customer, came into Plush Salon on Friday to match her hair for extensions. The next day, for several hours, he applied and blended the hair."They looked great. She loved it. She was raving about it," said Horn.Horn says when it came time to pay the cost of more than ,000, she offered to pay through the Venmo app."She said the app wasn't working, and then she offered to pay cash," said Horn.She told Horn she had to go to the car to get the cash."Fifteen minutes go by. I text her and ask, 'Are you close?' She says, 'Yes.' Forty minutes go by, and nothing. I call her, and I'm blocked from her cellphone," said Horn.Horn filed a police report, but because she hasn't been named a suspect in a crime, 10News is not identifying the woman. Horn posted details of the incident on the Nextdoor app. The replies included several more accusations of fraud against her, ranging from dine-and-dash incidents to credit card fraud and identity theft."It's insane. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After thousands of Art Institute of California - San Diego students were let down by the institute they trusted, some faculty members are left wondering if they'll receive their final paychecks.Student worker Stefon Harris was waiting for a check on Friday that never came. “Just been checking and checking and checking and it never showed up, it never showed up. I only have in my account," said Harris. The for-profit college abruptly shut down on March 8. The school's operator, the for-profit Argosy University, shut down the campus after court documents alleged it misused millions of dollars in federal funds.“it was shell-shocking, you don’t plan for stuff like that," said Harris. On Monday Harris received a letter from the court-appointed receiver for Dream Center Education Holdings (DCEH), the parent company of the Art Institute. The letter says that given the financial circumstances funds have not been secured and pay is delayed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman broke her thigh bone after she was riding on a motorized scooter and lost control in downtown San Diego Friday.The 65-year-old woman was riding a Bird scooter just before 2 p.m. in the Embarcadero area, according to San Diego Police. Her family members were also riding scooters with her.For some reason, police say the woman lost control of the scooter and overturned. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After 125 years serving San Diego customers Jessop's Jewelry store is closing down. Owner Jim Jessop tells 10News it was a decision several years in the making and one that is definitely bittersweet. All three of his sons opted not to take over and he didn't want to sell a business with such strong family ties. Jessop's dates back to the late 1800's when Jim's great grandfather opened the first store. He also designed the iconic clock which is now on display at Horton Plaza.Jessop says he doesn't have a firm closing date, he will simply stay open until he's sold the last piece of jewelry. Property owners at Horton have asked Jessop to move the clock, so he is now in the process of looking for another location that will preserve the timepiece. 799
